My 260 seems to collect a large amount of water in the head compartment and storage compartment behind the helm (about 2 gallons in the head and 1 in the compartment). There is not a dranage port out of these areas into the bildge so the water just collects. Anyone else with a 260 have this issue? Where is the water coming from? Can I drill a 1/4 inch hole from these compartments into the ski locker bildge?

Sounds like you got some kind of a leak. I'd try to find and fix the leak before doing any drilling. I assume that it's lake water, rather than potable, gray or black water? What kind of connections go into your head compartment? Any pump out fittings?

I had this same problem in my head compartment when I first took the boat out of the garage and it sat in the rain for a couple of weeks. I did not notice if the storage compartment had water in it but the head compartment had about 4" of it! I felt around all the edges and found a drain hole in the left corner closest to the door (rear near centerline of boat). It was plugged up with some "stuff" that had accumulated there. I just brushed it clear with my fingers and have not had a problem since. You may need to rod yours out with a coat hanger but, it should be there. It drains directly into the ski locker.

Amazing what a coat hanger will do!

Thanks for the info Marc. Coat hanger fixed the problem ASAP. Let's hope it stays clog free for the rest of the summer. If not, I left the hanger in the ski locker. As for the starboard side storage compartment, I could not find any sort of drain for that one. I may need to reseal the door or the cup holders above.

Dave...I was getting water in the same storage compartments. I found out that the water is coming in from the two fender storage compartments right in front of the windshield. One goes into the head and one into the storage compartment. Reason was because I just used the bow and cockpit cover. Now I use a full mooring cover and the boat has been bone dry.

I am not sure how to make those two screw on covers more watertight. I am going to check for the drain you found though.

How about re-routing the drain from the two fender storage compartments? Maybe re-route to the anchor locker? I imagine some create use of epoxy and tubing might do it.

Jim
They are just a canvas bag below the screw on "hatch" so there really isn't a drain. I thought I had seen an o-ring gasket on mine. I'll have to check. As long as the drains are clear in the bottom, I don't see a major problem with letting water in and out of the those areas. The port side actually drips forward of the head compartment and the starboard one would drip directly into the helm storage area. I would think that the entrance for the water is miniscule and the water just accumulates over time if the drain is plugged. I guess it's time for a garden hose test to find where and how much is leaking!

I may try some silicone sealant around them. The cup holders too. I hope my head water issues are solved with clearing the drain, but I still don't have a solution for the storage behind the helm. It was be nice if it was water tight so I could store towels and other dry stuff in there.

I got the same problem going on with my 210. Got caught in the rain last weekend and had a good chunk of standing water in the storage area behind the bow backrests.

I may try the coat hanger trick. I did get it dry by leaving it uncovered and the seat back open all day on Mon/Tues.
