Post subject: | Swapping props at the lake |
I just purchased a HighFive five blade prop to go on my 180 with Volvo Penta SX drive. I would like to swap the prop at the lake this weekend. I store my boat at the lake in a shed, so can anyone tell me what tools I need to perform a swap. I have the hub kit on order (should receive it by this weekend). Any install tips would be appreciated as well. Thanks, Jx |

Magnet for when you drop something into the water Seriously, get a decent prop wrench from WM or BW. Needle nose plyers for the cotter pin. DON'T FORGET TO GREASE YOUR SPINDLE! |

Changing prop on an SX is real easy.... All you need is a pair of pliers preferably long nose (i kept a pair of long nose vise grips on my old boat) to remove the cotter pin and an 1 1/8"? wrench or a large adjustable (sorry can't remember the exact size but it is big though) 1-remove the cotter pin and the retainer ring 2-undo the nut 3-pull off a spacer 4-slip off the prop 5-replace with new prop 6-reverse procedure from 3 to 1. Grease is recommended on the shaft. After the first time you'll be able to do this in under five minutes. Don't forget to hide the old prop (and the tools) somewhere on the boat so you'll have it to change out on the water if required! The prop wrenches are nice units because they are plastic and won't rust. |
