Alright...this is a pain to a explain and was even tougher explaining to tech over phone yesterday.

Anyway...last weekend on the water my outdrive did something strange..

- First incident was when I was turning (with it trimmed up) and it lost contact/push with water and overspun. I realized quickly what was happening and backed off the throttle. Pretty easy to figure this one out....but

- 2 mins later going straight it literally felt like my outdrive dropped in to neutral while we were doing about 20 mph. I backed off the throttle right away and then engaged again and it ran fine. I don't remember if the engine overreved this time.

- I do notice a slight grinding noise (or something that's not normally there) while turning to the right. I don't think it happens turning either direction. This happens just whenever.

So taking all three of those things together I'm trying to decide what the frick is going one. Boat still only has 60 hrs on it. The mech said it's possibly something with the prop assembly but he'd need to see it to know. Just haven't had a chance to get it over to him yet.

Obviously the incident where I was going straight on and she just plopped down has me the most concerned.

First thing I would look at is if the prop has come loose on the hub (seen this before on Merc. OB). WIth the boat in gear (motor not running :D ) grab the prop and try turning it so see if the hub's slipping. If not this, then maybe the cones in the leg are slipping (not sure if they do this) or maybe you're getting some bad cavitation.

Dunno about the noise bit - all I could think of is gimbal joint, but 60 hours is not a lot of time to cause a problem there.

I'm drawing a blank... the noise would seem to indicate gimbal bearing or u-joints, but nothing you've said gives me a specific reason to suspect either one with 60 hours on the boat.

I'm guessing spun hub in the prop.

Apart from what has been suggested already, (spun hub) it might be that the gear selector cable needs adjusting. It might be adjusted such that the selector is "just" in the forward gear positiong and even the slightest movement of the cable like when you are steering/ tilting the drive is enough to take it to the "just" out of forward gear position.

If it is a spun hub, and it is a stainless prop, have a close look at the inside bore of the propellor(s) to make sure there is no crevice corrosion ( little brown pinholes, which when you poke at them develop into big holes full of black sludge!

Gotta wonder if a spun hub would cause the noise/vibration he's describing. I've never been in a boat when the hub is spun, so I wouldn't know. Anyone think that it is a possibility? If not, I'd have to go with the gimbal.

I'll vote; Prop or shift cable adjustment. No telling until it's inspected......

I'll say your brake rotors are warped  ... just for the sake of saying something.
