Post subject:  Sirius Problems with Sony Head Unit

Hey guys. I'm having issues storing my favorite channels on Sirius for quick selection on the face of the head unit. The boat is a 2008, and it has the big fat Sony deck in it with the flip down face. The Sirius works fine, but I can't program my favorite channels as presets. It looks like it works, but as soon as I turn off the key, they go back to being programmed 1-6, 7-12 and 13-18 on each of the bands, in Sirius 1, 2 and 3 modes respctively. It's very annoying when you want to tune to something high and have to scroll through them all one at a time.

My AM/FM preset setting works fine. You tune to the station you want, and press and hold the preset you want it stored as, and it beeps. Done. It works after turning off the key, too. I can't find anything about this in the owners manual for the head unit or the Sirius add-on manual. I'm enjoying the Sirius, but hating the time it takes to use it. At this rate I won't be subscribing once the 6 months free are over.

Anybody notice this on thier boat? Anyone know how to fix it? I can't imagine it's a failure in the headunit, because everything else about it works perfectly. What am I missing? :?

Thanks. Have a great weekend.

Maybe the memory wire from the Headunit is disconnected, or wired wrong? Historically FW wires this into the helm power circuit so that presets last until the battery is pulled, or disconnected via a switch. After market memory circuit keep alive batteries are available, some are even rechargable. You could rewire the memory wire direct to the battery, or to a keep alive battery.

I don't think that's the problem. Like I said, the memory works for AM and FM stations, just not the Sirius. I think if the unit was wired wrong, none of the memory would work...

My 2008 does the exact same thing -- has since the day I got it (April 2008).. I have just resorted to not listening to Sirius at all --- too much trouble...I set those stupid stations about five times before I just said forget it.....I would be happy to know if you find a fix though, maybe I will have it looked at in the winter. Really odd that the AM/FM presets work great, but Sirius presets will not hold.....

I have the exact same problem.

I've been thinking though....maybe the memory is stored in the Sirius module itself. The Sirius installation manual says it requires a connection to constant power. Maybe FourWinns has it wired to ignition power.

I'll test it tonight.

Otoolea: Any luck? Where is this module, any idea?

What a dumb system. Does nobody test this stuff before they sell it?

This should be the marketing pitch:

Thanks for buying a Four Winns. Along with our partners at Sirius, we would like to throw in a free pain in your ass for 6 months. Have a great summer!

Mine is in the bow storage area...starboard side.

I have confirmed that the stations are stored in the sirius module and that it is supposed to be wired directly to the battery. I can't confirm what the current wiring configuration is...(no voltmeter last night)....but I'm guessing that's the issue. It's very close to the amplifier so I'll just run a wire to the amps constant power supply.

Well that worked, I connected the sirius module to constant power and now the stored stations remain 'stored'.

The best part of this is it resolved another annoyance of mine where everytime you turn the boat on or off, the radio went to 'off'. This must have been due to the sirius module powering on and off. Now the radio just resumes playback on whatever source I was playing before turning the key. :D Much Better!!!

If anyone here works for four winns or a dealer, they should let them know to run constant power.

Hallelujah. The radio turning off was sending me too.

So, All I have to do is have the power lead on the Sirius module connected directly to the battery and everything will be cool? Sweet. Thank you so much.
