I'd like to upgrade my two speakers and stereo (cassette tape) player with a modern CD\MP3 head unit, 4 speakers, and one sub woofer.

The Rx has two speakers located under the rear bench seat. I'd either need to cut in two more speaker locations for the front two speakers (or go with a surface mount.. I also need to locate the amp and subwoofer. I was thinking the amp can go in the side compartment and subwoofer under the rear seat. Any suggestions for this?

I want to run about 200 watts (about 50 x 4) for the four 2-way speakers. And I want to run a sub too. Do most everyone that does their own installs use a 5-channel amp? I am assuming four channels for the speakers and one channel for the sub. I don't want to run all sorts of amps and crossovers. I'd like the install fairly simple.

Does anyone have any diagrams on how these are wired? I looked at crutchfield.com and found some items I think I like. Is there any other good discount places to buy?

Thanks in advance.....

I installed a new Clarion M475 head unit last month and have been very happy with it. I installed new 6" speakers under the dash on both sides by drilling a 5" hole on each side. Right now I have left the holes open under the seats on my RX and am planning on putting in a pair of new 6" or 7"...still have not decided.

BestBuy.com and overtons.com both have marine stereo equipment listed also.

Good luck!

For 4 speakers and a sub I'd probably go with a 4 channel amp. Set up like this:
CH1 - (2) 6.5's 4-ohms each wired parallel to achieve a 2 ohm load
Ch2 - (2) 6.5's 4-ohms each wired parallel to achieve a 2 ohm load
Ch3 and Ch4 - bridged together and sent to the sub
I'd do it this way becasue to get good clean sound out of the sub you're going to need good clean power. A "good" 5 channel amp with a dedicated sub channel and ample power to push a sub will leave you with 1 channel per 6.5". This will work great but when your fave song comes on and you crank the volume up, you'll risk the chance of fryin the 6.5's. This is just my expereince, so please take it with a grain of salt.

Uhh, a good discount place at least for JL is right in your back yard. Ask Ryan at Winnisquam Marine he got mine for me at an awesome discount and it is pretty heavy duty for what I use it for, and yes it was a 5 channel amp. You can probably do it cheaper with other brands that are arguably just as good I expect. But hey if this kit is good enough for the high end mastercraft & malibu's then who am I to judge.
Here was my install in a 210.

Jim_R made up a tres-cool underseat sub box you can see here:

And his stereo here:

CougarCruiser did a awesome install in a 240 and he has a great discount contact too:

And Impulse did a trick setup here:

All sweet installs - and there are more that I have forgotton. Excellent guides when you jump in to do yours. Hit any roadblocks don't be shy just ask someone here has likely solved it.

I'm pretty happy with my Clarion CMD4a head unit. Now that the CMD5a's are out, the 4a's are getting cheap. In many ways selection of head unit depends on what extras you want to incorporate (e.g. CeNet remotes, mp3 aux in jacks, Sirius or XM radio, CD Changers, etc.)

Also, finding a location for a sub with a sealed enclosure can be tough. I've heard some good things about infinate baffle subs that can be installed without an enclosure - something to think about.
