I tried to torque the prop nut with the gear lever in reverse (per the manual), and something is slipping around the recommended torque (70-80 ft-lbs). On an older outdrive I used a 2x4 instead. What is the best way to torque up the nut? |

The service manager at my dealer told me he's never torqued a prop nut in his life. He said just make it tight. I was a little leary about this, but then figured that there's a reason for the keeper and cotter pin being there. I guesstimate that I came close to 80lbs, and had no slippage. |

I agree with you Jim - I have always done them up tight - no torque wrench - just "tight". Hold the blade with one hand, and the other on the wrench. Just need to make sure the splines are greased and the prop locates properly. Split pin does the rest! |
