As I type I am having 2 removable speaker pods being made. They are being glassed this week. I will be able to place them on the swim platform when we are in the water behind the boat. Like these.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for speakers to make it easier to hear music from in the water while anchored in a cove at the lake. Currently we have the stock sound system and to hear it from the water it needs to be turned up to ear piercing levels inside the boat. I saw the pictures of the optional aft speaker that mounts on a different ski storage door. I've also seen wakeboard tower speakers though we don't have a wakeboard tower. Also, with the aft speakers how do they get wired in? Are they spliced into the rear speakers some how? or an external amp? I'm pretty good with wiring so thats not a big deal. Just looking for some ideas. Thanks |

I am not sure what year you have, but I have a 98 Horizon Rx. I had two factory speakers under the rear seat only. The original stereo was a Kenwood tape deck. I just installed a Sony M-30 CD player that is 54 watts x 4. I wired the stock speakers into the rear speaker wires of the Sony and cut two more holes in the bow section under the seats and installed two Alpine 6-1/2 speakers. Today, I will be installing an 8" amplified Bazooka tube (150 watts?) under the rear bench seat. I will take pictures and post them up. Should have pics up later tonight. |

Sorry, I forgot to mention its a 2007 horizon 220. I think the aft speaker option from the 2008 would be a direct replacement for the ski lids but I'm not positive. |

The 2008 ski locker lids would be a direct replacement, but in my opinion look hideous. Not to mention the way the speakers sit on the lid (facing up and angled back) would make them susceptible to holding water on the cone. Marine speaker or not they wouldnt last long like that. I would probably go like TX and use some portable boxed speakers |

Here's the pic Tx attempted to post:  (That pic was protected pretty good!) Looks cool! I especially like the covered outlets the speakers plug in to. I'd be inclined to glue some of that non-slip rubber material to the bottom of the pods to make sure they don't take "a long walk on a short platform". *edit - now Tx's picture shows up for me. Oh well, good intentions and all that. |

Mine is 2, offset Momo 6-1/4" all in 1 pod. And it will have rubber feet. |

Add an amp to the stock headunit for the swim platform speaker box. Keep powering the interior speakers w/ the headunit. Use the gain knob on the amp to set the preferred level of comfort. |

Im cheap, i'm putting a switch on my set of rear cockpit speakers (that have a channel) to power the platform speakers. I'm still on a single battery, but dont worry I have 2 oars!!! |

eecy, I had the same stock sound system in my 2007 200H. I did as Bryant suggests, I added a Clarion Amp, and left the CMD4a powering the stock speakers. In my case I added two speakers to the rear of the cockpit and a subwoofer under the bench, but the concept would work well with what you are considering. The amp I used is the Clarion APX480M, same as FW used in the Deluxe stereo package. This amp is a 4 channel amp, so if your plans are only to add the two remote speakers, you could make do with a two channel amp like the Clarion APX280M. The CMD4a head unit provides great flexibility for configuring an amp and remote speakers - you can configure the speakers to fade with front or rear speakers, or be completely independent of fader control. |

Tx, you might be able to find input jacks that could automagically switch off your rear cockpit speakers when the remote speaker is plugged in! *edit - a portable 12V jumper pack might save you some rowing. Easier to stow than oars too. |
