Post subject:  Bildge is running all the time

The bildge on my 200 Horizon is running all the time, switch on or off. I hooked it up to one of the other switches that I know works and it still runs.

Is there a sensor or something? I'm pulling the fuse as of now but it's for sale and I'd like to fix it before I turn it over.

Any ideas?

Must be shorted internally.

A thought.... try checking the circuit for the auto-bilge (float switch), and see if that has any effect. That could be gummed up.

Could you tell me where to look? I think thats what is happening because it did this once last year then went away on it's own. It started again when I left it out over night and it rained.

I would look fairly close to the bilge pump for the float switch. It will probably look almost like another bilge pump with wires going to it. It should have some sort of screen on it. First, try bumping it a bit to get it to move, then tracing the wires and locating any place they can be disconnected (outside of the bilge, you may reconnect later). If that solves the problem just blast it a bit with a garden hose and that could free up any debris holding it. It's nothing more than a float with a switch on it... pretty simple, but could be your culprit.
If it is the source, may not hurt to remove it from service. I wouldn't personally, because I leave mine out on the water when I camp and such. Unexpected rain storm at night + auto bilge pump = boat that can be put back to play without difficulty.

It sounds like the float may be stuck, maybe a piece of debris in the bilge jammed it. What kind of auto bilge switch does FW use in their boats now?? I have a Sure Bail in my old 88 Horizon 200 and they work well because the float is completely contained within the body of the switch and there is no way something can jam it.

When he said he hooked it up to a known-good switch, I thought he meant another float switch. If not, the float switch is suspect numbers 1, 2, and 3.

IMHO can only really be the float switch...

Its the float. Mine did it once and I beat the hell out of it with a broom stick and it never did it again. I think its scared of me now.

My '07 H200 came with a Rule switch and pump. You can see the float switch (reads Rule-A-Matic Plus) in front of the upgraded bilge pump.

Try that just once with the wife or at work, and see what happens!

I had a boss that hired a guy one day walk in the warehouse he was sitting down walked up to him and said "your gone get out" in the loudest voice ever. I was scared to death of him for years. I later learned as I moved up, that it was set up, he hired the guy and told him what he was going to do in advance. Damn it worked!!! You just have to train your bilge pump.
