Hello, I just performed my annual oil change. A day later I noticed water in the bottom of the boat in the engine compartment. Is this normal ? It was about a gallon of water. I have never really noticed this before. I always run the engine {garden hose attached}  get the oil temp up and then change the oil, then run the motor again.(2008 Horizon H240) Mercusier 6.2 MPI IO Any input would be appreciated |

Is this from just running the boat on land? Did it rain around then? Just running the boat on the hose should not add ANY water to bilge of the boat...keep in mind that I/Os have a cooling system with a lot of places to leak water...there are the feed hoses for the manifolds, the rubber hoses that connect the elbows to the down pipes, and the rubber hoses that connect those to the exhaust Y pipe behind the engine. All those can leak, the one that's the worst to fix though is where the Y pipe bolts to the inner transom mount. A leak there, requires an engine pull to fix. Might have to use a camera extension or similar to find the source. Same thing when you put the boat in the water, if you start with a dry bilge there should be NO leaks when you put it in the water. |

Thanks LouC, Yes this is just from running it on land. Boat is stored inside. I guess I need to look closer |

Well hopefully it’s just a hose clamp. Get a small socket set and use the socket to tighten the hose clamp you can get them much tighter that way. Especially check: The small hose that goes from the transom mount to the P/S or fuel cooler, if this hose pops off you will have an immediate and severe overheat. Happened to me back in 2013, lead to blown head gaskets in 2016 & water in a cyl. I did a top end overhaul in the spring of 2017 replacing both cyl heads and installing new center riser exhaust. Not too bad of a job but going over all those clamps once a year will prevent problems. |
