Post subject:  Horizon 170 Depthfinder

We recently purchased a 95 Horizon 170. The previous owner stated that the depth finder did not work because he did not pay for the option when the boat was purchase new. He also stated that the hull came stock with a transponder built in for a depthfinder (?).

I recently replaced the radio which involved removing the dash. When I had the dash apart I noticed that there was an empty plug socket on the back of the gauge panel. I located a plug tied away underneath the dash that looks like it will fit the receptable on the back of the dash panel. The plug and socket are round and contain two round pins.

Does anyone have experience with this plug socket on the back of the dash? Could it be that the fatcory option (and price) for the depth finder was to simply hook it up? The display is in the dash but it does not show anything (obviously). I was going to plug it in an see what happens but was afraid of maybe damaging something in the process.

Thanks in advance for any help or information you may be able to provide.

I'll be interested to hear the solution to this.

My 95 Freedom has a tranducer mounted in the hull and cables running to the dash where it ends with a 2 pin plug... I can't figure out where/if this connects to the back of the instrument cluster, as all I can see back there is a socket with 6 pins...
