Post subject:  Fish finder

Hello All
New member here! I have a 4 winns 2001 Horizon LE 18 with a 150 Johnson Outboard. I love this boat. One question, I'm installing a Hummingbird depth finder. My question is on the transom installation for the transducer. I would like to install this right the first time.

Can anybody show me a quick pic of a sucessful install? Does your Fishfinder work at high speeds?

Per the instructions, I plan on installing the tranducer on the starboard (right side).

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Paul

I installed mine on the R/H side. I used 3m 5200 sealant on the screws. I put a SS pitot cover over the thru hole where cable goes into hull used plumbers putty on the outside only to stop the 5200 from running out & making a mess from the inside. I cut out a piece of poplar wood to fit into the cup holder on the dash to mount the display. I used 2 electric tape holders to act as a base/spacer in the cup holder. The wood is a snug fit but i didn't want it to work it's way down from the pounding of the wakes. Measure twice drill once! I put tape over the gel coat anytime i drill, stops cracking of gel coat. Some say to drill in reverse. I haven't had a problem doing the tape thing. I also installed attwood flush mount rod holders on the gunwhale. High speed no doesn't work false readings.

Mine is installed on the R/H side also. It does not work above about 15mph, but that may have more to do with the quality of the unit than the install.

It was there when I purchased the boat, but here's a picture:

That helps, the instructions say mount it 15 inches away from the prop but that would put it on the other side of the spedo.

I think I high speed readings are only for thru hull fittings.

I recently installed a Lowrance fishfinder with a transom mount transducer. Instead of fitting it to the transom I used it as a shoot through hull system in an oil bath in the engine compartment of my vista, its easy to get at, fully adjustable, no drilling, protected and works at speed, I can go into more detail if you think its worth it.
