Hey all,

Bought my first boat in 20 yrs. I bought an older 1985 195 Horizon Four Winns with a 170 4 cyl in it. It was fairly priced and runs good.

I have the "short" canvas top for it, but was wondering if there has ever been a "camper top" for it?

Just curious.

Here is a pic.

Have a good one!

Welcome. We need more Michigan boaters on here!

I would try a local canvas shop for your enclosure. FW OEM will be long gone.

believe it or not, the original was under the storage. Apparently it had not been used. It is still really good after 23 yrs. Go figure!

I spent 3 hrs cleaning it out tonight. Talking to the wife about reconfiguring the deck area with a L sofa in place of the left seats. Who knows. Floors a bit mushy, but I am not going to worry about it for $1650.00.

Looks MUCH better with a good vacuuming. It is amazing that people dont take the time to do this when they sell something.

Ah well. Will keep you posted.

Anyone boat on Lobdell Lake or Lake Fenton?

well all...

The rejoicing was shoprt lived. Apparently, from what I can gather, was trying to either fix or replace the right trim sensor and, you guessed it, slipped and put a hole in the shift bellows. Talk about a crapload of bad luck. I am torn what to do, the tear is small and the other two bellows are perfect (near new).

Any ideas? It had a blob of silicon on it, but it flaked off. I do have some (dont laugh) tape that is used to repair transcon cables that I might try. I know it is "hillbilly" but I am scared as heck to take the outdrive off myself and put new ones on and I cant afford to have someone do it.

Thoughts, suggestions, prayers?

Oh yes, lastly, the camper top is the OEM Four Winns top that came with the boat new. Go figure!

I'd be way more concerned about the mushy floor, than the shift bellows---I have a Cobra and I pulled mine off in about 1/2 hr to do the u-joints and gimble inspection, and check the bellows. To get it on is a little struggle but really not hard. There are Merc manuals on line on a couple of websites, try http://www.boatered.com or http://www.iboats.com You have to fix that right, or risk water in the gimble area, rusting your gimble, and ujoints.

The floor, well you could be looking at some major work there. I started with a rotted area under the helm seat. Fixed that with a good patch job, then a couple of years later found major rot under the rear seats. Wound up tearing out the deck from in front of the helm seats back to the engine. Had stringers repaired, replaced foam, replaced two 6' long deck sections. Then had the 'glass shop glass it and coat in non skid gelcoat. The inside looks new and the boat is 3x more solid than it was. BTW, FW only stapled the deck down to the stringers with 100s of rusty nasty staples. A thin skim coat of 'glass and none of the screw holes were sealed! And carpet that held in the moisture. I used stainless screws and 3M4200 marine adhesive/sealant. Every single hole was sealed with 4200. Where a fastener had to be made removable, I used threaded inserts into the deck so rot will not start there as it would if you just put a screw into an unsealed hole. No carpet so no held in moisture. I'd never have another boat with plywood decks covered with carpet.
It's not a job I'd ever do again, but this boat is way more solid than any older boat I've been on. More solid even than some new ones I checked out at boat shows (esp Tahoes, the deck on them was really flexy). So much for modern construction!
Good luck with yours, the gelcoat on the outside looks great!

Just replaced my u-joint and exhaust bellows this past weekend. Took some time and got a Seloc manual from my library.

See thread on my first maintenance. May be a different outdrive but ......
