Made a stupid mistake. crossed the possitive and negative cables while attempting to jump start. Now nothing is getting current. Anyone know what my next steps should be. What fuses need to be replaced, how large is the damage ( maybe someone else has made this mistake )

Give us some boat info.

Check your circuit breaker & all fuses.

I have a horizon 230 2005. other than fuses is there any other damage that is common with this error.

I'd hope that someone on here knows if that model has a bus (main power) fuse or not. If you have an owners manual that has a wiring diagram that will help you immensely. First look and see if the power wire or other wires has the insulation damaged on them. If not you may be in luck. I'd call the dealer in your area, if no one here is familiar with your boat (Doubtful). They could tell you the exact location and describe what to look for as far as fuse's go.

If you tried craking, you may have damaged components related to the Fuel Injection (ie computer, sensors, etc), not to mention the stereo, amp and other devices that require specific polarity. Like he says, check for the obvious as well. Check the helm power circuit breaker, Mercathode and bilge pump as well. These components are energized regardless of ignition position.

I made the mistake once of crossing the cables to the battery I hooked up on an older boat and then trying to start it. It popped the circuit breaker on the battery side of the ignition and did no damage. However, that was an old carbureted (sp?) engine and it had none of the sophisticated electronic devices that your boat has. Not sure if crossing the cables is the equivalent of what you've done, but I'd start looking for fuses and breakers as a beginning point.

Make sure the alternator is still charging.

If you have a volt meter in the dash, it should read 13 volts or more, when the engine is running.

If no on-board volt meter, use a hend-held multi-meter and check the voltage from the positive to negative terminals of the battery, with the engine running. Again, you should see 13 volts or more.

Good to see you got going. I did same thing and cannot find any circuit breaker or fuse on my 1990 Horizons 4.3 OMC near the starter. Anybody have other suggestions as to where it might be? Certainly they most have anticipated Dumb and Dumber, eh? :-)
