Thanks to the forum, I now realize that my trim gauge on my 2000 H180 is only designed to show the range in the running position (as compared to showing beach and trailer range) Prior to understanding that, I was asking my electrical friends how I could modify my system so the gauge showed the full motion from trailer mode to full down. Well, he came up with a solution of adding a 68 ohm resistor in parallel. Given the choice, would you prefer your trim gauge to show full range or just "running range" ?? Thanks. |

Whilst it is still working, I prefer it to show the "running range" on my boat; trimming the drive up more than a few degrees has little further effect on my boat, so if it was set up to showing the full range, the adjustments I make might not show on the gauge. In my " start up" procedure, I always make sure the drive is fully down before starting the engine ( I press the trim down button, and go by the sound change in the trim pump when the drive reaches the fully down position, rather than relying on the gauge). My previous 225 Sundowner, with the 5.7GSi/ DPS was a lot more responsive to outdrive trim than my current 245 Sundowner is. Graham |

I prefer full range. My typical running position is at about the 1/4 mark. However, I beach frequently, and I need to be slightly trim up to trailer due to the location of my rear-most roller. The full range indication is prefered for me, however, I could understand arguments for a "narrow-band" range. |

It is a volvo. The range of the dash gauge is 10 to 50 ohms where the range of sender is 10-170 ohms. By adding a 68 ohm resistor in parrell, I should be able to get the output resistance seen at the dash closer to the 10-50 range. I bought some resistors and can play with tomorrow. |

the only way that would not be full range or real close to it is if someone changed it. stock it would have come that way. unless the sender or guage has some kind of issue. |

This is now complete. I put the 68 ohm resistor in parallel and now have full resolution on my trim gauge. Now to wait till spring to get it in the water and make fine tune adjustments. I'm running out of projects and it's not even Halloween......going to be a long winter.....ugh. |
