I have found varying reports of the performance of this boat. I'm especially interested in hole shot and top speed. We're looking at the 2007 VP 4.3 190 HP. Prop is a 23". Does anyone have this combo and mind giving a report?

You'll be fine with a 190hp on a H190. Would a v8 be better? sure... do you need it? NO. You'll can prop yourself to hit 50+ or prop yourself to pull the arms off a skiier/wakeboarder. That's the beauty of a single prop drive.

If you hada 3.0 in it -- that's be another issue.

I think a V6 is more than enough power for a 18-19' boat. V8 is always nice, but not needed for that size. Friend of mine only has the 3.0L in is H180 and it still moves decent enough, but the V6 is the way to go IMO.

I'm sure you're right and I appreciate the input. I've read everything from it's a spirited, fast ride to it's a dog and feels too heavy for it's motor. Just wondering if there are any current H190 owners with the Volvo GL/SX package who would mind posting some numbers?

Hi Fanatic. Good choice of boat  Top speed in mine is 50mph by GPS. Holeshot is fine - no problem pulling up 2 skiiers, wakeboarders or 4 kids on an Airhead Mega Slice tube. My prop is stock standard as it came from FW = 14.25" x 23". Happy to help with any other questions you may have!

Thanks for that. It looks like I should be fine. Any problems with engine run on? Also, since there's no mid-ship cleat, where do you hang your mid-ship fender?

Not the 19' model, but not too far off.

With the stock 14.25x23, I'll run around 47-48 WOT, but for watersports we use a 14x20 4-blade prop that planes out at slower speeds.

I've pulled a Super Mable & Big Mable at the same time without issue, other than watching the gas needle go down quickly.

I had run-on the first year I had it and used a higher octane to cure. Last spring we had a full tune-up done and did not experience run-on even with 87 in (saving a ton in fuel $$$).

I'm surprised there is no mid cleat on the newer models, that's the one I use the most. Maybe look into suction cups to hang the fenders from the windows...

Fanatic - run on is caused by low grade gas. Use premium and it is not a problem at all - switch back to regular and it comes back every time! Also varies from gas company to gas company as well. Here in Oz, Shell has the lowest octane rating by a couple of points compared to say Mobil or Caltex. If I run my car on Shell regular it pings. If I run it on Caltex regular it is fine....

Yes, lack of mid-ship cleat is something I have found also. I have a VHF antenna on the drivers side that I hang the fender off (only works on one side!) , or the loop the bimini ties down to on. I know other guys on the forum have found suckers that you put on the side glass and hang the fenders off there.

My first boat lacked midship cleats...I had the dealer install some for me...not much of a deal really and certainly the most durable option over suction cups and/or hanging from the bimini hardware.

I have the VP 3.0 and really wish I had opted for the larger engine. The 3.0 works okay for the wife and I but when I get 4 200lb plus guys trying to wakeboard from it you can surely notice the sluggish response from the hole.

4 200 pound guys trying to do anything on a 19 foot boat is going to slow it down.

You guys need a bigger boat!
:D

I have 08 H190 4.3L Merc W/23P prop. Standard seating. Comes up on plane quickly & odometer WOT says 54mph, I'm sure it's off but it sure feels fast on the water. And I ride a CBR954RR & have seen triple digits on the speedo too  You'll be fine W/V6, the 3.0 4cyc will get you there, BUT I think it has to work to hard IF you want to run WOT alot (which I wouldn't recommend on any eng.personaly)
