Hey guys, I'm starting to get serious about my audio upgrade, as spring is coming and I want it done before the first launch. I'm going to do almost exactly what Blessed did a few months ago, excpet I'm not going to do the woofer. Otherwise, I plan to use the same sort of stuff he did. I'm looking for:

JL M4500 Amp
1 pair JL M650 CCX - classic grille - for bow
1 pair JL M770 CCX - classic grille - for cockpit.

Anybody have a good source in terms of price on this stuff? I found a dealer not too far away, but he's not giving me much of a break on the price: he's at $499 for the amp, $435 for the 7.7"s and $390 for the 6.5's. This is all CDN $, so the USD amount is about 80% of that right now.

Thanks in advance.

Are the JL's that much better than the stock Clarion's? I just hooked up my stereo last weekend. Used a Kicker 5-channel amp running the 4 stock Clarion speakers and added a Sony 10" marine sub. The 4 stock speakers sound awesome now with a little extra power going to them. The stock ones read on the back if you pull them out that they are capable of handling 100 watts each.

Yes, they definately are

Thats peak power, not RMS. There is a big difference between the two. If you can afford the JL's, they are worth it. 8)

I knew it was peak which Is why I am only running 70 to each speaker and wow they really come to life. I guess I would have to here the JL's before I spent that kind of ching.

I'm sure they are better. But, after hooking the clarions to a decent amp, my $650 can be better spent.

I gutted my clarion stuff and replaced it all with JL. There is simply no comparison. I'm not just saying that so I can sleep better at night knowing how much I spent on my gear but its not even close. My clarion speakers only last about a year plus anyway. They were completely taxed by even the clarion amps and that's not saying much compared to the power the JL amps I installed put out.

I have a thread on the subject. Not sure if the pics are still there or not.

I bought mine from a local guy who came darn near close to what I could get them on ebay! I wanted to go from a local guy because I wanted the warranty and if anything went wrong or I needed help with the set up he would be there for me.

It was money well spent.

Jim @ BOE Marine sells JL Audio. I definitely recommend them.

Make your local JL dealer a fair offer and see where it gets you. You're spending some bucks on the equipment. If they want to lose out on that kind of a sale - that should be up to them.

As I recall, I paid about 275 for each pair of my 7.7s. I think the price has gone up to about 300 now. The amp can be found for 350-400 pretty easily. The sub should be no more than 200 I think.

My speakers aren't clarion. They are sony, and they are junk. 1 of them already isn't working. They don't even have tweeters. They are dual cone. I have a pretty sick home system, and I'm snapping at the crappy system in the boat, so I'm doing something about it.

I'll check in with Jim at BOE. I don't have a local dealer, so I'm not too worried about getting them online or over the phone. I'll be pretty much on my own once I get them in either case. The closest dealer is about 2 hours away, and he's the dude who is not moving on the price.

Thanks guys.

I do believe the Sony's were a down grade from the Clarion's in the previous year model.

Sony does NOT make a great speaker.

The head unit is comparable... but the speakers are less than stellar.

Anything is an upgrade.

Going from Sony to JL audio is like going from a Toyota Corolla to a Porsche.

I have a stock Clarion system on a 2006 H240 with the "wakeboard tower deluxe " which included the subwoofer and 2 tower speakers. Now I have a great sound in the cockpit but you cannot fade the sound up to the tower speakers, only fades front to rear per my dealer. This means to get the sound loud enough on the tower speakers you blast out people sitting in the boat - not good!

Can I add a separate amp for the tower speakers? Has anyone added 2 more tower speakers (for a total of 4 on the tower)? The only advice I have is to replace the whole system, most people say Wetsounds is best. I really don't want to go to that expense; would rather upgrade what I have than replace everthing.

Decent price... from not an authorized dealer.

I'd pay a couple bucks more to get a warranty.

I think the biggest difference between JL audio and others is how crisp and clean they sound, especially at high volumes. I know in cars there is no comparison. Of course after doing db drags and running four 12's in my honda civic, I am now deaf. :)

To bad Bose doesn't make marine speakers. IMO there are the best speakers ever made! My truck has a factory Bose sound system and blows away most after market systems. You would swere it has a 10" sub hidden some where, but it doesn't. I can crank it all the way up with zero distortion.
