Hey guys I have a 2008 H200SS. It has stick on "rosewood" trim panels on the helm and passenger side dash below the glove box. The are pretty annoying to me, and I'd like to replace them with something a little more sporty, and something that matches a little better.

Any ideas?

You see this all the time on the automobile side. It would take some work, but locate the type of material you want to replace it with (possibilities are endless), pull the current trim piece, trace out the shape and all of the holes for the switches and cut out. I always thought the "carbon fiber" thing would look good there.

I was thinking of carbon fiber of a brushed metal look. I was hoping someone would send me a link of something already fitted that I could just order... I was hoping to avoid cutting my own cabron fiber or brushed steel.

Are the panels aluminum or stainless with woodgrain covering?

This may be "cheesy" but before you go "all the way" you could get a vinyl covering (sticker, graphic, etc) which can be made to look like anything and then just remove and replace your switches leaving the exsisting panel there and laying down the vinyl over it. Just a thought.

I would have thought that you would just use a vinyl applique also. I know the sign shop I go to has rolls of all kinds of different patterns such as brushed aluminum, chrome checkerplate, brass, turned metal etc.... It's all available and definitely could be a DIY project.

Huh. I'll look into that. I'm not sure what the backer is, but I guess it would easy enough to find out.

I was thinking more along the lines of the guys who do carbon fibre, wood or aluminum trim from cars, trucks and SUV's.

Way too expensive and the "fake" stuff will look just as good. I imagine there are some tricks to getting it right but the vinyl won't cost that much so you can do it over and learn from the first time. I like this idea and will keep it in my arsenal for future. Check ebay for vinyl they seem to sell a little of everything on there.

If you can make a template for your dash, there are many custom build dash insert company around and they would build an insert for you (it would cost you a little)
I have used these guy to build carbon fiber dash inserts for my Mangusta and they came out perfect. These shops mainly sells dash insert kit but they would take a one off project as well…. Shop around!

Anyway, I called dashkit, and left a message. I'll post how it goes, and how much it's going to cost. I'm thinking either carbon fiber or brushed aluminum.

I bet I could send them my wood ones, and they could use those as templates...

This is still going on, but I'm not getting too far. Dashkit can certainly do it, but they don't do lettering, so I'd lose the labels on all the switches. I was thinking if I could find a place that does both, I could get my docking lights and exhaust switches properly labelled, as they simply say AUX from the factory. That's a joke too, I think, since both of those options are factory installed, and standard on an SS - why they can't label the switches is beyond me...

When I got it, my boat had a docking light switch ( plus all the wiring), with a docking light label stencilled on the fake woodtrim, but no docking lights! That label is still there, I don't want to try removing it with a solvent in case it ruins the shiny "wood" effect, but the docking light switch has been replaced with a Neutrasalt one.

Guys, I am such a bonehead. I work in an Acura dealership. There is a company that comes around and has solicited my business for a couple years. Although its not something I am interested in doing, its EXACTLY what you want done here. They take your original items and use some sort of "immersion" process to put just about anything on them. Carbon fiber, camo, wood etc...They do look pretty nice and durable. The only downfall is that you will lose all of your button labeling as it will cover up what the factory does. I think they have a 2-3 day turnaround on these things. If anyone wants the number to them, send me a PM.
