I have a 1990 Horizon 200. My problem is that when I put it into reverse I don't get any thrust if I need it. For example if I head into the dock with a little to much speed and put it into reverse it won't really respond. Any suggestions on how to adjust this?
Thanks

Firstly welcome to the forum.
In regard to not getting any reverse thrust, are you sure that reverse gear is engaging ? If it isn't chances are it is just a cable adjustment. You didn't mention if you can reverse normally, the other thing I thought it possibly could be is to check to see if you have any weed fouling the prop. Also what prop are you using some seem to like reverse more than others. Another possibility is the bush in the hub is dodgy, and of course can you post some photos, as we all like to look at pics.Once again welcome to the forum

What drive system do you have, OMC or Merc? If it's an OMC Cobra, there is a pocket that the shift linkage sits inside of that can get packed with corrosion and deposits, and then the shifting becomes stiff. If it's not engaging in reverse fully (does it 'clunk') in or no response, you have to get the shift linkage adjusted. To do this the drive has to come off. I have pulled the drive off at the end of each season and cleaned out where the shift linkage sits, lubed it up with OMC triple guard grease and that has kept is shifting well.

You can test it on the water hose on land, remove the prop first for safety, then hook up the water hose, start the engine and have someone watch the prop shaft while you shift it from foward to neutral to rev and see if the shaft spins in rev.
