Post subject: | Another faulty / replacement dash question |
I think by now we've gotten some experts on this forum regarding the replacement dash issue, but my question is more about the faulty dash. Has anyone heard of the oil presure or engine water temp gauges going out? My thoughts are that I can live with no trim gauge or even no speedometer, but I obviously can't live without the oil and water gauges. I have not seen any complaints on this issue but I hoping for you all to provide your opinion. Thanks. Boating season can't come soon enough... ![]() |

In my case, it was either the entire VDO Cluster working or not. In fact, I could have easily burned my engine up because on my first outing last spring, the cluster was flaking out on me and my impeller had also bitten the dust. With the VDO resetting and beeping every time it resets, I didn't notice the high temp warning at first. I noticed it and shut it down possibly just in time...there was a little smoke coming from the engine, but there didn't appear to be any damage. As I mentioned in a previous thread, I have replace my cluster with the new one and I am ready to get it out for a test drive. I would launch for a test this Friday if the weather holds out. |

My guages go "flaky" intermittently. My radio also works some times and not others ??? I think it may be moisture related and haven't looked into it any further until the unit completely craps out. I have had the guages go out completely and individually. The most annoying issue so far is the digital display for the depth, hours etc... doesn't stay on one item when you change it. It just keeps scrolling through the items until you turn off the motor and reset it . (Bad/sticky push button selector switch?) Anyways I know my boat well enough to make it home without the guages so when they do finally give up the ghost I will look for a replacement guage cluster. |

Both the oil pressure and temp gauge went flakey on mine, the oil pressure always would read low and sound the alarm randomly, the temp gauge would go overheat if I plugged my tube pump into the outlet and return to normal when unplugged. My speedo was within 2 mph of my GPS though. |

Oil temperature gauge reading low and sounding the alarm is a common problem and easily fixed. Just add a (I think) 200 ohm resistor in line to the oil pressure sensor. Let me know if you need to do it and I will take a photo of mine to show you where it gets installed. Cheers Dave |
