Hi all...Just popping in to introduce myself. I currently own a 1987 Four Winns Horizon 170 with a Merc 115 outboard that I am in the midst of an interior redo on (see pics...dont mind the dates, the camera is all jacked up lol.) So far I have replaced the rotted wood, new capet, b2b and jump seats from Overtons, and a stereo. Got it late in the season last year and this was our first boat purchase. We were not sure if we were going to enjoy boating, but the unsureness was gone the first time out. We will be looking at a newer, bigger boat at seasons end. Possibly in the 22 to 24 ft range. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Welcome! Not sure what's up with your pics - but you'll want to use the img tag on the message body toolbar and then paste the pic URL between the tags. Show lots of pics of your restoration! |

Pics fixed..... I wish I had taken some pictures of the interior before. It was somewhat embarassing though! I still have a bit of work to do, I will keep everyone up to date with the progress.... |

Thanks for the compliments, I am getting ready to pull all of the teak off and refinish. My wife works for a paint and sandblasting company, we are gettign the trailer completely powdercoated! I also have my neighbors kid getting ready to wax it, for $25....shhhh.....hes 14 and doesnt know any better LOL. My bow cushions are cracked in some places. What would be an average cost to get these recovered? I was thinking of trying this myself, there is no complex curves or anything, but not sure yet. I have looked all over the internet trying to find other 170's with the outboard option and I cant find hardly any? Was this not a very popular option in the late 80's? Next nice weekend here in MI, I think the boys are going fishing....... |

Welcome! We had a 86 190 Horizon growing up, great boat! It looks like you have brought that thing back to its glory. Keep it up! I see your relatively near Metro Detroit, where abouts are you planning on boating?? |

NOLV4V8, Not sure if you are familiar with the Howell/Brighton/Fowlerville Area? We bought the boat very very late in the season last year and we wanted to make sure we could figure out what we were doing before going on a bigger lake, so we stayed on Thomspon in Howell. We are not far from Linden, Fenton, etc.... which all has pretty good lakes as well (so I heard). We are open to ideas, now that we can launch in under 15 minutes.....lol |

I looked at a boat similar to mine at Lake Fenton, my dad bought his Four Winns up there before it was bought by Skipper Buds. It seems there are quite a few nice lakes over that direction. I will be likely to be on Lake St. Clair (my family has a cottage on the St.Clair river) and I can keep the boat over there and not have to haul it around all summer. Glad to hear of more people in the area, if you need anything feel free. I can share what I have discovered in finding things for these older boats. If things weather wise keep up we might be in for an early summer (fingers crossed). -Rob |
