The Admiral, bless her and my good fortune, has always been a girly girl who is still quite hot thank you very much. She has been a good sport for multiple years (had to go easy on that one) and has gone on all sorts of “Griswold Family Vacations” for the sake of the then young family unity etc. I recall there was the decade we beat the crap out of our Volkswagen Westphalia camping out on logging roads or otherwise remote locations with three kids. Now it is chocolate-under-the-pillow vacations or forget about it. I was adamant/grateful to get our boat two seasons ago. It always helps when the co-signer of the loan is in agreement. I had to quit smoking so the Admiral had her payback so to speak. Living longer and a new boat seemed like a good trade. I figure we get along great when I’m the boss of things but admittedly the Admiral runs the place. I was wondering if your Admiral easily approved things for the boat?

No fuel problems if you just float. Bugger that, I'm burning fuel this season.

As for the Admiral... A happy wife is a happy life.

Simple answer, No. It took 5 years to get a new stereo for our boat. Have not added a single thing to the boat since we bought it. Except for gas , oil and general maintenance supplies.
Mainly because we have not needed to buy anything. We will start to add things slowly to the boat, as we move forward.

If I quit smoking, I could get a bigger boat. Uh...... we are keeping what we have. :D

Admiral generally doesn't let me make upgrades to the boat with out some sort of argument on why we need them. More because I want them!! I did do a few things that so far she doesn't even know about!!

The admiral LOVES the boat.

When I need something, I use " I need X.... for the boat" -- she may not like it, but she rarely says no.

Conversly, when she comes home after an afternoon at the mall with god knows what - she says "honey, look what I got! It's for the boat!" Somehow, it's hardly ever actually for the boat though - but she finds that a reasonable point of reference.

My wife loves the boat, but doesn't think anything ever needs upgrading. She is content with a stripo model car if thats what I would give her, but like "cougar" says its always ok when they come home from the mall with what ever. In her defense though what she usually buys is for the kids.

Mine loves the boat, the idea of it, and adding things to it. hell she even likes the idea of the wakeboard I just bought. Consider shes the bread bringer currently, I can not argue.

Now my car, that's another story.

My wife LOVES the boat & didn't want our 1st one 2yrs ago. After being out in it she decided she LOVES it ,But didn't like the Galvanized trailer & bottom paint. So I told her I knew the boat was sound & had no problems BUT wanted to upgrade to a new FW. I took the Bayliner to local dealer got $900 more on the trade in then paid for it & she has been great W/adding anything I want, including she's bought ALOT of stuff for it!!!!

I have learned that when it comes to the boat, it's much easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. I usually just do the project and then show her the benefits. When she asks what it cost, I put a politician spin on it. "It's not how much it costs, but rather the additional value that it adds to the boat, that's what really matters"

She's been suprisingly easy. Maybe thats because she is really loving boating. It didn't take much at all to convince her to allow me to buy a bigger boat...I thought that would have been tough!

hell 2 years ago i wanted to get a boat, thinking 8k or so to get into the sport. then the wife saw the four winns we have without me knowing went to the bank got the loan all on her name and walla there we have it. the running joke is it is "her" boat, but she can't take out "her" boat without "my" truck... haha suprised the snot out of me tho!!!

she's all about letting me get stuff for it. at first it was all the toys, tube, wakeboard, wakeskate, etc. now i'm trying for stereo upgrades.

My wife and I have the same money values and long term goals. We don't need to ask each other if we are allowed to spend money because we think alike. We both know neither of us would make any frivolous purchases so it is all good. I guess this is one reason we have such an enjoyable marriage.

I don't ask. Hell...she has not worked since I was elected years ago. She lives like a princess. She buys more crap that she never uses or wears. I will buy what I want for the boat.

I find that the words "the old one was broken" or "it's dangerous to leave it that way" followed by "it's 21 years old what do you expect" work pretty well. If all else fails "you don't want me drifiting in the middle of Long Island Sound do you" ususally does it.
