Hi All,

I purchased a new 180SS and it should arrive at the dealership (I'm keeping my fingers crossed) this weekend. I'm expecting a water test.

Any advice on "braking in" the engine? This is my first boat.

Thanks,

Curious what the 180SS has that the regular 180 doesn't? havn't seen one yet. Does it have the tinted low profile wind screen, paint scheme and color matched helm like the 200-220SS's? Not really sure about breaking in the engine. Never had two. Both of the boats I have owned were bought used. But welcome and lets some some pics of the new toy when you can.

It really is a standard H180 (4.3) but with the low profile tinted windshield, graphics, aluminum wheels on the trailer, I don't beleive the helm is colur matched. I got the wake tower and extended swim platform.

I really would like a 20 or a 22 SS but the 180 is all I could squeeze in my garage.....on a diagonal. This garage issue is a problem for toys.

I'll post pics when it arrives. I don't think there are many out there.

I know what you mean. I was looking for a 210SS, but happy I ended up with the 200 due to space in the garage. I could have fit a 210 or even 220, but with the 200 it still gives me room to walk behind the lower unit and makes backing it into the garage more forgiving. I have not seen one single picture of a 180SS yet. My old 1991 170 Freedom had a 4.3L and is a very nice motor for a 18' boat. My buddy has a H180 with the 3.0L and if you ask me is under powered, but for what he wanted it works great. You will be happy you got the extened swim platform as well. The 180 seems to have a really small one IMO.

Congrats and welcome. I too want to see the pics of it.

The breakin procudure....ask the delivering dealer. They will go over it with you and in my opinion, its important that you follow it as close as possible.

Since I have never seen a pic of the 180SS, I went to Four Winns and did a build and price to see what the options are. When you get the SS option, you get:

SS Package $1,166
4.3L engine only INCLUDED
SS gel scheme and graphics INCLUDED
SunSport seating INCLUDED
aluminum wheels INCLUDED
choice of red or black with black canvas and trailer, or navy with navy canvas and trailer INCLUDED
chrome SS designator and fill cap INCLUDED
color-coordinated helm and port console INCLUDED
low profile tinted windshield INCLUDED
stainless steel pull-up cleats INCLUDED

Fantastic!! Congrats on becoming a new Four Winns owner.

I'm with everyone else in beggin' for pics. There really hasn't been any good pics out there of the 180SS yet.

As stated earlier, your dealer should go over the break in procedures with you. Your engine owners manual will have a good discription of the break-in procedure as well. Have a good read through the book before you get out on the lake, and you will be fine.

Now who said the 180 with the 3.0 was underpowered..... :)

I guess there not really under powered, just I am a speed freak so to me they are. I guess when ever I buy anything I always go for speed as one of my top priorties. When I had a motorcycle it was a CBR900RR, my old car was a Pontiac GTO with 330 RWHP. I am a lover of loud exhaust!

For the first tank, you're supposed to keep it under 3/4 throttle. Do not maintain constant RPM for long periods of time.

Now I come from the old school of break in an engine the way you're going to use it. Just make sure you allow ample warm up time before any hard use.

Sounds like you had the girly 5.7L car with the single exhaust....

just kidding!

Congrats on the boat, I was unaware of the 180 SS. Pretty nice looking boat! Now lets see some pix of yours!

I did have the 5.7L, but no girly single exhaust. I upgrade to an 05-06 rear bumper and had SLP headers with cat deletes going into a JBA catback that was split like the 05-06 exhaust so it sounded mean as hell. Also upgraded the gay flat hood to an 05-06 scooped hood. Most of the 5.7L cars were dynoed at about 280-290 RWHP, but with the exhaust upgrade along with a K&N CAI,MSD wires, and NGK plugs I put down 313 at the rear wheels. Also upgraded the brakes to the 05-06 style which were much bigger. Had factory option 18" chrome wheels and a killer suspension upgrade lowering the front 1" and the rear 1/2". Heres a pic of me out on the track with it.

Sorry to get off subject, but I miss my car now that it is getting warm again. Oh and the SS option makes the 180 look so much nicer!

Thanks for your help. I'll be sure to post the pics once it arrives. Looks like it won't be this weekend.

Everyday I arrive home from work, my kids are walking around the house with their life jackets on. Yesterday.....the dog even had one on.

I sure hope it gets here soon......

I see you have a C63 to? Nice ride. A guy I know just picked up a 2009 C63 AMG. That thing is wicked fast and the exhaust is soooo sweet sounding. I think it had something like 550 HP!!
