I am new to all of this so any suggestions would be wonderful. I am a first time boat owner. I just bought a 2007 ( hold over ) 200H four winns with the 5.0 220hp Volvo Penta.

NOW , is there something i should look for in the first 20-50 hours? how often should I bring it in to be serviced and all that jazz. Any sounds i should listen for? leaks? loose bolts? WHATEVER....

I just don't want to take the family out and say. WTF was that??

I have been out with frinds and family on their boats but never owned one out right and let alone Brand NEW one.

Have you read the Volvo Penta manual? It has a really good section on maintenance the first few hours of break-in period. Reading this, the FW manual, and topic specific info. in this forum will really help out.

Congrats on your new boat.

Most dealers suggest a 20 hour service. They change fluids, check alignment etc...

My Volvo book says to service on the 50 hour mark for most things. My 2008 has 40 hours on it. The fluids/filters were changed and I put a new impeller in.

Post some pics, and welcome aboard!

I have read a few different things about the Impellers on these boards. is that an item I should be checking or upgrading? I saw some pictures on here somewhere of one that broke a few blades and now they are looking for peces of it everywhere

Congrats on the boat

Impellar should be good for 2-3 seasons as a maintenance item

Enjoy

Impellers are an opinion item.

Some say:

1. Replace it every season, its cheap insurance (this is my theory)
2. Every other season
3. Every 2-3 seasons
4. When it breaks

You have to decide what works for you and how many hours you put on your boat per year, how its stored, etc...

Probably be a good idea to do a visual and sniff check on the engine compartment before/after each run. I also recall some advise checking the power steering fluid, it can be low on new boats.

Ask for a very thorough walk thru with the dealer. Don't be afraid to ask the stupid questions. Get an onwater demo if possible.

I actually saw someone brought a camcorder along to the walk thru. Seemed to be a really good idea. Have them show you things and then you have it on video for later reference.
