Post subject:  Storage/Travel Cover Question

Hello Fellow Boaters, I have a question regarding storage/mooring covers. I feel like I need more than just the cockpit and bow cover to protect my boat when it's not winterized and shrink wrapped. Our local canvas shop does a great job on custom covers(10oz Sunbrella) that are tie down and cut-out around my tower, which would obviously provide a great deal more protection, the down-side is they charge $1140. My wife thinks this is unnecessary and believes most owners don't use them. Not that your responses would necessarily mean I wouldn't go ahead and get one but would help if I were correct in assuming some use them. My boat sits outside from mid-May thru mid-September. Thanks and help a brother out!! :)

I had a similar dilemma in regard to a cover for my H180 $1400 for a you beaut wizz bang cover or a $100 cheapo. I went with the cheaper option because
1) the dearer one will only last 7 to 10 years anyway
2) If I have to replace the cheap one every 2 years it still works out cheaper anyway
Having said all that , things to look for in a cover
1)Should be breathable fabric so that when you put the boat away wet ( and it does happen it wont go moldy)
2)preferably a soft material so it wont scratch the boat
3)It should be uv stable or resistant so that it lasts longer
4) Buy one size larger than stated on the box that way it covers down the sides of the boat better
I dont know how brutal the sun is in you neck of the woods, but where I store my boat that is what causes most of the damage .
Hope this helps

I bought the factory mooring cover with my boat, and I couldn't be happier - no snaps, easy to put on and take off, and the interior of the boat stays bone dry. Here's a pic to prevent confusion with Four Winns relatively new Trailering cover:

Think the cost was less than half of what was quoted for the custom cover - $500 - $600, as I recall.

4 pages of everything you could ever want to know about covers.

Me I dont see spending the extra money, to have Four Winns order it from someone else and then ship it to me. I measured mine (being I have an extended platform) and had my own made.
