I am new to the FW family. I just bought my first boat a 200H 2007 ( hold over ) I have read through a lot of posts and I keep seeing posts about Impellers and how they are being replaced or broken a lot.

Is this something I should be looking at all summer??? do they break often? is there an up grade from the stock one I have now?

if it makes a difference I live in Vermont and I will be in Lake Champlain all summer..

Thanks

Welcome to the board & congrats on your new boat. Typically you can get 2-3 years from an impeller so you shouldn't worry about it. Good luck & enjoy the summer

Agree -- they have a good service life unless you boat in lots of sand -- as we do. They should last several years. There is not any alternate source or upgraded ones for Volvo that I am aware of. That is not true for Mercruiser -- there are more suppliers for that, and at least one is better than the factory sourced part. It was also about twice as exepnsive. It used to be a different color to identify it -- but since I have been out of Mercruiser for a couple of years I don't remember all those details and am not sure it is still available.

For me, its all a matter of cheap insurance. I like a new one in the boat, every spring. It can be changed by yourself in 30 minutes or less. Very straight forward maintenance and its not even messy.

I am SURE you can go longer than annual replacement on one, but like I said, I like the insurance and peace of mind it brings me for less than $60.00
