Post subject:  No drain for floor level side storage

Greetings everyone. I recently purchased a new (to me) 2005 Horizon 200. I researched and shopped for 3 months before finding this boat and it is like a dream (especially with the 5.0 VP EFI). The issue I'm having is the storage compartments on either side of the back bench at floor level. After playing on the water or getting back on the boat wet those compartments fill up with water and there is no way for it to drain down. Has anyone ran into this problem? Would there be a problem drilling a small hole in the back corner for it to drain down into the bilge? Any advice would be appreciated.

Which reminds me... I have the same problem with all the cup holders in the boat. There are no drains in the cup holders and they don't seem to pull out either. What's the best way to pull these out (a little muscle behind it) or help with the draining problem. Thanks!

Odd, I don't have the problem with the storage areas filling with water - I imagine your 2005 200H is very similar to my 2007 200H with Sunsport seating. Sounds like you are talking about the areas under the seat cushions on either side of the cooler, rather than the storage areas under the lift up sundeck to either side of the engine compartment. I am surprised those areas would fill with water as the entire bench is removable, to facilitate working on systems in the engine compartment. You most certainly can cut into the corners of the bench - apart from the cushions and hinges, the bench is almost entirely constructed from starboard.

On the cupholders, I've heard that the SS cupholders do not have drain holes. The white plastic cupholders on my boat do have drain holes, and I know that on mine there is no additional tubing running from those drain holes, I'd think you'd be fine drilling your own drain holes. A call to FW Customer Service on this might not be a bad idea. I personally wouldn't hesitate, but then I have plans to drill holes to add four more cupholders to mine, so consider the source of this advise.

Now that I've figured out how to post pictures...

See the circled areas? That's where water will drain and stay in. I don't have a better pic currently, but hope this gives a better idea.

On my 2001 190 Horizon, it came with drain holes in those side compartments already.

My 2007 doesn't have those compartments.

Mine doesnt have those either, but I am guessing that you could install your own and let it drain into the bilge without any real trouble.

On my '99 Horizon 180 LS that area drains when the water flows between the beige colored plastic piece that loosely keeps things in that side-board compartment. There's the molded peice that's part of the hull - then there's the beige piece of plastic that's screwed to the deck... There are gaps that let water flow out...

Yeah, I don't have those, but there is a cupholder on each side positioned there that does have a drain hole. One of this season's upgrades I'm planning is to cut holes and add additional cupholders there - they will have drain holes too.

I have those on my RX, but never had a problem with them filling with water. Mostly it collects sand inside that is difficult to get out. I think the piece that runs along the side may have a small gap that would allow the area to drain.

I have the same issue. That is a good idea drilling a drain hole at the back. I have already drilled the cup holders. A couple times a year I hose out the entire cockpit to get any dust and dirt out. These get about a gallon of water on each side.
