Finally hit the water yesterday. She is very very good looking on the water. Once I finally get a full buff I will be happy.

With not so good of luck, boat heated up, and ran great. When to take off and get up on plane, wham, boat fell on its face. Upon pulling back on the throttle it caught and would continue to run fine. Anything +2200 RPM and the boat would shut down.

Needless to say I think it is fuel related, I recently had the boat serviced and they installed a new fuel water separator while they were working on the out drive, and I am wondering if that could have caused the issue. So they are taking a look at it for free, as they should.

Oh well, work thru the bugs and try again next Saturday. Sure beat looking at her in the garage for 7 months...

Uhh , am I to assume you are referring to the boat or the admiral? I'd agree either way
Bummer on the season opening run, but on the up side you have a nice rig and it's early enough to straighten out befor it gets nice.

Hey glad you hit the water. Just think soon the bugs will be worked out and you will be loving it. On a side note I never got back to you about the depth finder. I found out mine doesn't work so I will try to track that down and see how it is mounted for you.

We boat on the St. Clair River / and Lake St. Clair. If things keep going the way they are, we will be relocating to Cincinnati, and be boating at Brookville by the end of the summer.

Todd

No rush on the depth finder, mine lights up, but doesnt give a reading. I need to mount it up in the bilge. If you have a chance shoot me a photo of how yours is mounted!

I've been out on Lake St. Clair a few times with my Grandpa.

Keep us posted on the Cincy move...we are always looking to add to our Brookville group!

I had a similar problem on my old 88. The first season it was OK, the second season the engine would not plane out the boat. It would rev to 3-4K rpm in neutral no problem but would not take the load of planing the boat. I tried all the things I could think of and then took it in. The shop had it a few days and found a couple of things...the carb had some water in it and needed to be rebuilt and the anti siphon valve on the gas tank was restricting fuel flow and the engine was starving for fuel. After they rebuilt the carb and replaced the anti siphon valve it ran great (this was back in 2004). Yours does sound fuel related...but also make sure (this is probably a points and condenser ignition) that the base timing is set right and it has the right amount of advance as well. I was able to check the ignition system out myself and I knew that wasn't the problem in my case. The anti siphon valve is a spring loaded valve that prevents gas from siphoning out of the gas tank if the line from the tank to the fuel filter ever leaks. Finally make sure they installed the fuel filter correctly...and if it's a Rochester carb there is a small filter at the inlet of the carb as well that could be clogged. If region you are in just changed to E-10 from regular gas, the Ethanol in the E-10 cleans out the crud in the gas tank and can clog filters......and it attracts moisture from the air into the fuel....it's a BAD thing for marine engines....OK in cars.....

BTW the boat looks great...mine is the same color scheme but in red, maroon and grey, and it is really oxidized...I got the best dual mode buffer (Makita) but didn't get to get er done because I had to get the boat in before all the good mooring spots here are taken....I will pull it mid season and give it a good buffing job and the mid season stuff that needs doing...zincs and re-spray the drive with anit fouling paint....

Lou - it sounds very similar to my situation...when it was in for the outdrive service they set the timing and replaced the fuel water separator...so they are looking it over now.

I will call and mention the anti siphon valve in addition.

In the first shot its not the water reflecting on the side, it is the oxidation...I have more pics of the stripe replacement in which you can really see it. I just want to get her home, cleaned up, and on the water!

I hope by that you mean you are getting a job in the area. I live in the northern suburbs of Cincy. Let me know if you need anything on this end. Not as many lakes in the area as you would find in Michigan but we have fun any way.

Sadly not yet, my wife accepted a position at ABC Pediatrics as a SLP in West Chester. She is currently working here, but the cost of living difference in the relocation will save us more than half of what we are paying now.

I am looking for work, however it seems that design work is super hard to come by these days...I have a better network to work the freelance gig in the Cincinnati area.

Where abouts are you located? I grew up in West Chester, and I am a Lakota grad. We always boated at Cesars Creek, Brookville, and Lake Cumberland quite a bit growing up.

We live in Mason. I am sure you already know the area has changed a lot. We keep our boat in storage at Caesars creek. Although I prefer Brookville, Caesars Creek is closer. We hit Cumberland and Erie at least once a year and this year we will make it down to Norris. Again let me know if you need any help with the transition.

Oh yes, its remarkable how much it has changed since I graduated in 02. We had our reception in Mason in 07, at the Manor House.

I will definitely do so. Thanks for the offer, if you know anyone looking for a help keep me in the loop!

We've been here since '98 and I just realized why that sounded familiar. I was thinking a pediatricians office, but you mean ABC Pediatric Therapy don't you. Good friends of ours recently sold their share to the current owners. They were partners. They have kids our kids age and our sons play football and baseball on the same team. In fact he was from Michigan originally. It's a small world.
