Post subject:  1995 Horizon - VDO Problem

I have a 1995 Horizon with the 190 hp Volvo. I've owned it since new. Several years ago the trim gauge stopped working and it seemed like an annoyance so I lived with it. Then the volt meter stopped working. Not the temp seems to be acting up. This is an all in one VDO gauge system. I've had it out but it seems like you need to drill out a bunch of black plastic rivets to get inside it.

Is this like the newer ones where an additional ground will solve the problem? Or should I pay $500 for a new panel from Four Winns?

I haven't found any info about the mid 90's models and their VDO panels.

Thanks
Brian

Mine is bad too. My dash has no VDO markings. It looks like an automotive dash though. There must be a fix for this?

Ok this is the only pic I could find of my gauges.

I had trouble with our gauges and ended up taking the gauges apart (yes drilling out the rivets) then fixed some burt traces on the circuit board, then drilled little holes on the face of the gauges and put in needle stops. I used tooth picks painted black and superglued into the holes. The needles would viberate down too low on the tow to and from the lake and the gauges didn't have enough power to pull the needles back up into the operating range. Then I also added in another power wire off the switch and a ground all the way to the battery. Knock on wood I haven't had any more gauge problems.
