I am new to boating and looking at purchasing a 1995 Horizion 200 with a fuel injected 5.0 by Volvo. The lower unit was replaced in the last two years. Does anyone have any information about this boat and motor set up. I am looking at pulling tubes and water skiiers. Thanks for the help!! |

We have a 94 Horizon 180 w/ the 5.0 Carburated by OMC. The boat runs great. We love the boat just wish it was about a foot or 2 larger. Make sure you check if over good and/or have a boat mechanic look it over. |

A 20 footer like the 200 Horizon can be a great first boat...but keep in mind that it's going on 14 years old and you have to carefully inspect the condition of the structure of the boat...to make sure it doesn't have rot in the decks...transom...stringers etc. Most boats of that vintage used wood and fiberglass construction and if water gets into the wood it can rot it and cause structural problems. So I'd get someone who knows boats check that out...and then do a mechanical inspection....if the boat was well cared for and stored properly (not left out in the elements with a tarp thrown over it) it could be a good first boat... We have an 88 Horizon 200 that developed rot in the deck and turned into a big job to fix....the mechanicals were fine as was the hull itself so we fixed it and are still enjoying it at 21 years old....great riding hull and the OMC Cobra power package believe it or not has been very reliable...more so than some newer boats I have seen... |

Thanks for the help! The drive was replaced because fishing line got caught in the drive. It was dealer replaced with receipts. Is this boat goint to have ample power to pull up a skier with 4-5 other people in the boat. I will be boating on the Mighty Mississippi. |

Also, what kind of RPM and MPH should I be looking for on the test drive? |

If you go to the Four Winns website and look in customer service...past models...they will have all the specs on the boat..... My 21 year old 4.3-4bbl Cobra will pull 4800 rpm which is the upper limit of the wide open throttle rpm range.... On your test drive also note the engine operating temp (should be about 160*), engine oil pressure (about 20 at idle....40-60 at speed) and volts (13.4-14.5)...it should not make unusual noises...the drive should shift smoothly and not make odd noises...check when turning and trimming up and down (u-joints).... I like to check the temp of both the risers and manifolds with the engine running...they can be warm but should not be so hot you can't put your hand on them.... I also would crawl around the engine with it running and make sure there isn't water leaking from any part of the block or heads (freeze damage from improper winterizing). Finally I am fussy as all get out but I would not buy an older I/O unless I could have a mechanic pull the drive off so I can see if there was water in the bellows and see the condition of the u-joints and driveshaft...also you want a gear oil sample (water in gear oil=drive has to be re-sealed). |

You should have No problem pulling a skier with 4-5 people in the boat. I have no problems with ours and it isn't fuel injected. Post up a couple Pics if you got them. |
