Can anyone enlighten me on the process of completely removing the captain's call exhaust on my Horizon? Is it reasonably feasible? Is the lower unit/outdrive already set to handle exhaust?

Reason being....it seems our lake assoc (it's a private lake) just "updated" their boating rules to the following:

"Boat Exhaust limitation 1. Boat exhaust which is above the water line while the boat is at idle speed shall be prohibited from use on the lake at all times. This includes, but is not limited to captain's call exhaust and silent choice exhaust."

As I read that it's pretty cut and dry. Unless I buy two 200 lb water sacs to get my ports below water line even at idle.

I know you cannot remove the quick and quiet side ports without figuring out someway to plug them. I would just simply not select quick so the engine/exhaust stays in the quiet mode which goes out through the outdrive.

Some exhuast/noise still goes out the side ports but the majority does go through the outdrive exhaust ports.

There may be a kit to solve this issue but i haven't seen one. Sounds similar to a homeowners association that has stepped on my last nerve in the past.

I recommend discussing with the board the fact that pre-existing boats, already in use on the lake, cannot be modified. I can't believe they wouldn't make a reasonable allowance for those who already own their boats and promise to keep their exhausts closed. IMNSHO, HOA's rarely think through the whole situation before exerting their control over everyone. It may be that they just didn't consider existing boats.

What are the penalties for not complying and how can the HOA enforce them? It might be worth it just to ignore their newly passed rule. I would also recommend the grandfather clause as 230 Mike has suggested.

Yeah, the whole situation is kinda screwy. I knew nothing about it until I read the newsletter (which comes 4 times a year) and it was a super small blurb in it.

There was nothing in the website, paper or meeting notes. Well, maybe I need to reread the meeting notes.

It won't bother me too much if I have to get it removed (if possible). I just don't want to show up tomorrow for 3 days of boating and have the Lake Patrol tell me "nuh uh" go home sir. No boating for you with that exhaust.

I do run with it closed but it still cackles WAY louder than a prop exhausted boat.

I'm totally caught off guard on this one....it literally was just that little blurb in the newsletter.

Does anyone know if mechanically might boat is equipped like a standard (non CC exhaust boat) boat and that I could completely unhook the system if necessary? I dont' really care if the side ports are still there.

Granted I live in a red neck town, but I know here they would run them open and enforce there own rules via the shotgun. I honestly would make them pay to have it changed if they are requiring the change. I wish I had your exhaust.

From spending a few years on my old condo's homeowners association board, I can tell you for fact that an HOA can't just develop a legally enforceable rule out of nowhere. An HOA can pass by-laws which the board votes on - but those are really 'honor system'. If you push the issue and want to go to court over it - it's not legally enforceable unless by-laws are updated with your county and with $$$$ .

If it's a privately owned lake, that's another story... they can control access to their property.

But there should definitely be a grandfather clause in your case.

Certainly they are refering to the "use" of this exhaust option. With the exhaust selected "thru prop" this should not be an issue.

If not, the 4th of July is the perfect time to find out where these cronies live and take it out on them!

I was informed by water patrol earlier this year it is illegal to operate a boat on Mo waters with the exhaust selected "thru-hull" above idle speed. Likewise, if the boat fails a noise check at idle speed, 3 feet away I am required to have the exhaust system modified or removed to bring it into compliance. How would that be for a bummer!

I just think about all the drunks in thier Baja's, and say it'll be some time before they have real reason to stop me.

i am wondering the same thing as u cause where i am cutouts are not allowed but i hear lots of loud boats around me, so i dont know what to do either, i would love to have what you have so i can turn it off when i want, let me know if you do take it off and i will buy it from you, as for your other question, i think if you have the captains call exhaust then all you need is the connecting pipe from the header to the prop exhaust, because the captains call uses the factory prop exhaust

To answer a previous post...yes it is a private lake.

No problems yesterday...lake patrol even putted by as I docked it waiting for the Admiral to park the Tahoe. So that went fine but I found a rock about an hour later and killed my prop. That plus rain put an early early end to our day.

So if I'm understanding everyone correctly my exhaust does vent thru the prop with the Captain's Call but I'm probably still "leaking" some out the sides.

This mornings project is learning how to swap out a prop!

Correct. When CC is "off," you're exhausting through the prop(s). But all CC systems leak a bit even when off, that's normal. Sorry about your prop!

I would think you could get the elbow that connects between the riser/elbow hose and the hose below to the pipes that connect the outdrive. And then plug or patch the holes in the fiberglass.
