Ok so I have spend about twelve hours this weekend getting my boat cleaned up and ready to haul to Table Rock Friday morning. I have kept my boat (21' Four Winns) on the water for the first time this year and love the easy access and the fact that I'm getting more use out of it. The downside is it gets filthy. I spent all of yesterday pressure washing and using hull cleaner and it will never be as clean as it was before.

Question # 1 Is there anything I can put on my hull to prevent or slow down this build up. How do you guys handle this?

I also noticed when I pulled it out that I have bent one of the finns on my prop. Not terribly but bent none the less.

Question #2 I have noticed a loss of top end speed lately. Could this have caused it?

Where is a good place to have it repaired (Saint Louis Area)? I assume running with a damaged prop isn't a smart idea.

Would appreciate any advice you guys can give.

If you can't come up with anything quickly, call Midwest Propeller (http://www.midwestpropeller.com) in Olathe, KS. Shipping to you should be very quick. If that doesn't work, there are several marine shops around Table Rock (I'm there now) and you could try to line something up with one of them.

Thanks. I found a place in ST. Charles MO that came recommended. They only need three days so I should be fine. Headed there now.

Hi Jay,

I keep my boat in the water from May until October so I know what you're saying. I bring a telescopic washing brush like I use on my truck up to the lake with me once in a while. It can reach all the way under the boat so I can give it a good wiping every few weeks. I find that most of the grime comes off pretty easy unless you pull it out of the water and let it dry.

In the fall, after you pull it out, you can spray it down with Slimygrimy, let it soak for a little while and then use some car wash and the same brush to wash it down. Looks like new. :D

Most Marina's will do an acid treatment also, but I think there are differing opinions on that.

BTW...on the prop.....buy a new one (reconditioned) and send the other one out to be repaired. Neither is that expensive and you'll always have a spare.

My prop was dinges up so I picked up a stainless Volvo oem for 360 and kept the old as back up. Stainless is an upgrade!
