Hello everyone, new 08 H240 owner here. I've been reading a lot of the post and everyone is really helpful...great forum. I do have a question...does anyone have a recommendation on a lower unit travel brace that will fit the 240 and trailer? Most that I have seen are too long and I need mine to be around 12" long. Does anyone use these to trailer your boats for distances? Do you recommend them?

Those are made more for outboard motors I believe. Not needed for I/O.

They are used on outboards to help protect the transom from damage during travel due to the weight. I/O's don't have this issue.

We do have a thread around here on the subject. I believe the thought I liked most was using PVC or similar around the hydraulic rams. But, again not neccesary.

If you have rough roads that you travel it might be of benefit. Most boaters with I/O's don't use supports but if you live in the country like I do it might not be a bad idea. Our roads have not seen stimulas money in 20 years.

I bought a Trailering Clips about 4 years ago and used once….. They must be somewhere in our boat house or garage now…. I never bothered with using them since then and never had a issue. I would recommend to install a remote transom tilt switch for the lower unit that you can lower the unit down every time you store for a period of time.

Thanks everyone for the info. I figured better to be safe with the lower unit and hydraulics than deal with problems later. I'll get some pics posted soon (as soon as I take some good ones).

I used trailering clips on our old boat all the time just to take the pressure of the trim pump. As stated an outdrives weight against the the transom should not be an issue.

I use trailering clips everytime we take the boat to the lake. It is a 1994 and I don't want something in the trim system to fail on our drive and end up droping the outdrive on the road. Which is only 11 miles but if something failed...... Cheap insurance. it takes 2 seconds to install and 2 to take them off. I can deal with the extra 4 seconds per trip.
