I just purchased a 2007 Horizon 220 and we (wife and 2 kids) love it. We picked it up Friday and spent most of the weekend on the water. I have one question. Does anyone know if there is a way to dim the dash lights? We were out in the dark and the dash is illuminated by bright white light around each instrument. This pretty much killed my night vision. There is no apparent way to dim the dash. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Kurt

The only way is to install a dimmer switch. Carling makes one that should be able to replace one of the ACC switches if you have one.

Interesting... I do have a "boatload" of dummy ACC switches which are the on/off variety with the exception of one which was meant for the power drive for the engine hatch. I'll look into these.

Thanks,

Kurt

You may also be able to take the bulbs out of your gauges and replace them with LED's. I experimented quite a bit with this earlier this year - interestingly, to make the gauges brighter, not dimmer - but my point is that you can get LED's in various intensities and colors . I changed mine from a too-dim blue, to a perfect intensity red so that they don't effect my night vision (red doesn't make your eyes dilate). Here's a link to the gory details:

Mike,

I read the thread you linked. I wonder if the very bright white lights in the 07 dash is Four Winns' response to complaints about previous lights not being bright enough.

The current lights are white LED's that surround each guage. I actually had to put a towel over the dash to see where I was going. The dealer called today to follow up on the sale and make sure I was satisfied. I told him we love the boat and have only a minor complaint about the dash lights. I was told they would look into lower intensity lights or a dimmer switch. Either way they will have a solution by the time I bring it in for the (free) 20 hour service. We put 13 hours on the boat since Friday delivery.

Thanks,

Kurt

Hey Kruhlin

My wife and I have been spending quite a bit of time at the local Four Winns dealership and have pretty much decided to buy the Horizon 220 too. We had narrowed down to this boat and Chaparral 210. Other than the dash lights, any other problems/concerns? Which engine did you go with?

Thanks,
Dwayne
