I own a 2002 horizon 200 with a Volvo 5.0 GXI and it has developed a problem while running High RPM's for more than a minute or so. While running at 4000 RPM's for more than 60 seconds I will get a engine alarm and the engine will cut back to idle until it is put into neutral for a few seconds. I don't see any of the "telltail" lights come on that Fourwinns mentions in the owners manual and according to the oil pressure gauge it does not below 40 PSI (i think). the water and volt gauges read normal as well. The oil level reads towards the top of the "acceptable level" on the dip stick. This was checked immediately after shut off. Is it possible with the Higher RPMs the oil is pooling on the top end and the oil pick up is briefly dry?
The boat will cruise at 3000-3500 RPM's all day long with out a peep. Does anybody have any ideas? What am I missing.

How level is the boat when checking the oil? Is there any chance it's been over-filled? It could also be a failing pressure sender.

My suspicion is that at high rpm it may not be getting enough fuel...? Then again, being an EFI motor, maybe the mass sensor...

To be sure (and save yourself some time and money), you need to get your local VP dealer to interrogate the ECM - this should clearly tell exactly where the problem is. Fault should be stored in memory. Otherwise you may end up changing bits for no good reason.

the boat is as level as it gets when checking the oil level. I don't think it's fuel starvation because it never skips or sputters. I guess a trip to the marina will be in order.

I am having the same problem but I think maybe a water/ temp prob here is my post.

I own a 2002 four winns horizon 200 with the 5.0 volvo NOT fuel injected. every time I exceed 3000 rpms my alarm beginns to kind of chatter is the best way to describe it. Then if I dont slow down it eventually goes to full strong alarm. To stop the sensor I have to slow down stop turn off the engine and wait the after a few minutes I can start and go on as along as I dont crank up again. I aslo noticed that if I am not really pushing fast speed but just begin to hear that alarm sound like its going to come on I lower the trim and it goes away almost like pushing more water through makes go away. The problem is I dont know what to replace, the pump the thermostat, the sensors. Has anyone else had this problem?

I haven't done anything to solve my problem yet. I haven't had it in the water since then. Did the fella on Iboat's say what his problem turned out to be?
