I just purchased a 2005 Horizon 170 LE. I have taken it out about 7 times over the last few of weeks and twice the ignition fuse has blown. I noticed that someone has rewired the iginition to fuse box wire as the caps are a different color than all of the other electronics. Not sure if that is the cause or a possible attempted fix. All of the other electronics work fine.

I did a search before I posted and found a similiar post without resolution. Anyone ever experience this or have any suggestions before I haul this to the dealer / mechanic?

Firstly welcome to the forum . Are you sure the correct amp fuse is being used, I am assuming that it is so that is the limit of my expertise. Now is the time for someone else to chime in

I have the Volvo Penta 4.3 V6 and on mine it was a 15amp fuse. I had an issue blowing the ignition fuse when the starter got wet with salt water in the bildge from a plug issue (dont ask). Did it like 3x before the new starter was put in.

My mechanic friend had me use a 10amp and it worked fine when we were testing as we were out of 15's. That allowed us to get the starter working till the new one was installed.

I put a new starter in and have left the 10amp fuse by acciden in as it is not blowing at all.

20 amp is what is in there now. I will try a different size this weekend.

I am no mechanic, but my mechanic friend who helped with my failing starter (that we think was causing the ignition fuse to blow) said using the lower amp would mean that the fuse would blow sooner and thus protect sooner. At the time, we just had no other fuses on hand, and I used the radio fuse that was a 10amp and it worked fine. I have since bought a whole bunch of fuses and have them on the boat in the event of an emergency.
