I am thinking of buying a used 240 (probably 2006-2008). Interested in thoughts/comments about the boat. Had a Four Winns 224 until recently that I liked. One question about the 240 is whether the swim platform extends completely over the outdrive when the outdrive is down. Thanks for any input you can give.

The 240 is a fantastic boat (I might be biased as I owned a 2008).

Great size, and you can still tow it with a half ton size vehicle (Tahoe, Tundra, et).

Yes, the platform covers the outdrive fully.

let us know what questions you have.

What about a little older H260? The older boats have more room due to the placement of the seating. We love our bowrider but have recently acquired a cruiser. The extended swimplatform is a definite plus on any boat. Yes it "shelters " the outdrive but it is also a cheaper way to gain 2' !!!

Where are you located?

I own an '05 and still haven't seen anything I'd rather have. The platform is terrific and does cover the drive. Where do you plan to use it?

+1 for everyone’s comment… H240 is a great boat…. If the boat has a DP (or Bravo III) drive I can not see anything wrong with the boat….. We owned a H240 before my current H260 but if my old boat had a DP drive we might very well still have it….

This picture is H260. however, H240 and H260 has exact same size stern and swim platform....You can see the drive is completely under the platform…

Good size and plenty of room...just make sure it's adequately powered...at least a 5.7 V-8/dual prop...
I am not crazy about the swim platforms that cover the drive completely...yes it's safer for kids jumping off the boat but if you ever have to change a prop on the water to get back one day or get a line or lobster pot line fouled in the prop it can be dangerous because you will have to get in the water to get it off...I'd like to see these extended platforms made with an access panel so if you trim the drive up you can access the prop...from the platform not in the water...Always thinking of ways to make it easier to fix...hate anything in the way of me and my wrenches.....especially all that nasty molded in fiberglass around the rear seats of late model FW bowriders....

I'm in atlanta and will use it in big lakes in north georgia. I like the 240 over the 224 deck boat because of the greater deadrise, but the 240 seems to have similar seating capacity. Only looking at boats with 5.7L+ and duoprop. I like the 240 over the 260 because it is lighter and will thus be easier for me to tow around with my Suburban. (We tow our boats all over).

I just saw a good looking, low hour 2005 horizon 230 online. Any difference between the 230 and the 240?

Same exact boat. 230/240 tag just depends on the year it was manufactured.

On my 220, you can easily see/access the props from the swim platform with the drive all the way up. This is not an issue on the 220, is there something different about the 230/240 that makes this an issue?

It's more important to me to keep the kids safe from hitting the prop when they jump off the back then to have access from the boat to the prop. I have had to untangle a bouy rope from the water with my 224. it was not fun, but it was doable.

OK my first post! My wife and I bought a used 2003 H240 this summer. It only has 140 hours on it and was stored in a garage for the last 2 years. Essentially it is a new boat! We absolutly love it. I am towing it with a 4WD Nissan Pathfinder. We use it on a North GA Lake. It has the Volvo Penta 5.7 but is not duoprop. I am planning some upgrades this coming year such as Ipod interface for the Stereo. Considering the swim platform as well... Does the platform extend the overall length of the boat a lot?

Kelleyo:

The swim platform is built into the boat on the newer models. Not sure how big an aftermarket platform would be.

Kelleyo...welcome. We have the same boat as you but a few years older and have the DP. The extended swim platform is about 24" of extra length. I have considered adding one. But we rarely swim off the boat. We head to a secluded beach and anchor in waist high water. We hang out on the beach for the day. So for the $1800 I have been quoted from the local FW dealer it is not worth it to me. Nice looking boat by the way.

The 230 was re-badged as the 240 in 2006 but has remained unchanged other than typical year to year trim updates. Virtually the entire FW line was re-badged at the same time. Most of the mfr's went through a similar process, due largely to the trend toward integrated swim platforms - much to the chagrin of some folks who feel the designation should reflect the length of the running surface and not necessarily the overall length of the boat.

Wett Doggg is right it adds about 24" to the length of the boat.... The newer models have a much larger built-in swimplatform our original platform is about 20" but the extension gives a nice big place to hang out (and protect the young ones from the prop). I also like the fact that it drops the boarding ladder 6" deeper into the water and we gained an extra storage compartment. We use one for wet lines and shoes and bathing suits and the other is used to keep the beverages cold!
