Can any one please tell me how to test a water temp sending unit on a 1999 volvo 5.7 gsi. with out having to heat it in oil. the sending unit looks like it has a single stud with one wire on it that is held on by a nut. THANKS FOR THE HELP. (GAUGES HAVE JUST COME BACK FROM C.D.I.)

Faria sent me a curve for a 450 ohm thermistor that MC uses for water temp, it is not linear. If you trust your guages you can run the engine to normal operating temp. then pull the wire off the sender and measure the resistance. I checked mine this way, also used an IR heat gun on the t/stat housing. It takes a little time for the heat transfer through the housing but it worked out for me. PM me and I can send you the curve ( its an excel spreadsheet ) or I can send you resistance values that equal temp.

Thanks very much for the info, I have the resistance values. This sounds like a simple way to test.
