Curious how to know which propeller was the correct one for my H240 (2003) with the 5.7 Volvo Single prop? I have only had her out a few times before it got cold. I am analyzing props and also possibly hydraulic trim tabs for next season...

If you call your four winns dealer with your hull ID number, They should be able to run your hull number and tell you what size prop came with the boat from new.

You need to get the info above, plus get some running data on your boat (RPM, speed by GPS, etc) and then plug it into the prop slip calculator before you change.

additionally, I've asked techs about trim tabs.... they considered it nothing more than added weight on a bow-rider less than about 26'.

If you have performance issues, a tune-up with all new fluids and filters would be my starting spot, followed by getting data running the prop that came on it new, then use the calc to fine-tune.

Hi Kellyo - my understanding is that the original prop fitted to this was 14 3/4 x 19 pitch stainless steel which gave a top speed of 47-50 mph. Check out this link for more specs on your boat...

That speed sounds about right -- I have the 240 with the Duoprop and lightly loaded mine will do about 47 on the GPS ---
A single prop should be better on top end -- but not as fast to plane ---

If you boat in waters where you need to compensate for the waves -- or for uneven loading with a lot of people -- then consider real trim tabs --- I have had them on mine for two years and find them very useful --- (I had them on my last boat for 6-8 years also)
We boat in salt water and the ability manage trim is very nice --

Didn't find trim tabs were need on my H200SS. Seemed pretty stable even with uneven loads of people. My Baja on the other hand needs them and has them. With the 24 degree deadrise it is a must.

One thing about single prop drive we likely become an expert on props. We had a 06 Horizon 240 with VP SX drive. The Boat had a 14-3/4” 21” pitch SS 3 blade prop and it hit just on 50mph mark… I also had a 14-3/4” 19” pitch SS 3 blade prop which gave us a little better hole shot but slightly slower top end. The best prop for our boat was Revolution 4 (Merc) 14-5/8” 19” pitch 4 blade SS prop (with hub kit for Volvo) It gave us decent hole shot with top speed of 49 mph. I would highly recommend trim tab for large boat with single prop. I installed trim tabs on our 240 and they were awesome when you load up with people.

I have a Merc Revolution 4 23P on my boat and love it. Gets out of the hole quick and still sends me up to 53MPH/GPS. I am going to try a 23P Mirage+ in the spring just to see the difference as it came with the boat.
