lookin at this boat. New to boating. Don't know alot about about what to look for . Any info would be a help. SOunds like a good buy, but if your not expierenced with boats have a certified marine mechanic look at it with you. Very nice boat for a first boat. |

how do you find a boat mechanic ? I am a little concerned it can't be run or at least started.opinions how to handle that? |

The winterize process is why it can't be run till April. It has antifreeze in the engine block so if he starts it up for you using muffs he will flush all the antifreeze out and the engine block will hold water. Then if it freezes it could possibly crack the engine block. On the other hand it sounds like a good first boat. |

I don't know anything about the price, or mechanical condition. My comment is simple. This age and size boat are VERY GOOD for someone getting thier first! I've seen too many people who have never boated and purchased one brand new, only to have problems... half of them related to inexperience! Getting a trailerable, family-size, about 10 yr old boat is ideal.... This way the first scrape you put on it from the dock, or first juice stain is yours, and you won't worry nearly as much. I hope it works well for you, best of luck in the Mech inspection. IMO- If you believe this boat could be "the one", would the current owner hold onto it until it can be run with some sort of down payment? If it's really as good a deal as advertized, you may take it to a dealer/mechanic (third party), have them check it out and run on the muffs, then re-winterize it properly. It may cost around $300, but from what I see you may be paying around $3000 less than a comparable boat. |

I have pretty close to the same model (same hull, different layout I believe) and yes, it makes a great first boat. This summer will be our fourth year with ours and we still like it as much as the first year. We also bought it in January and gave the dealer a deposit to hold the boat until spring and it could be started. For a mechanic, if this is a private party, look for the closest dealer and see if they'll look it over for you. Otherwise word of mouth in your area could bring other mechanics to mind. If it's through a dealer and they don't want to run it, ask for a warranty period after the thaw. $7k seems like a reasonable asking price...if it were mine, I'd be asking more. |
