I just bought a used 2002 Horizon 190 and when I took it out the first thing I noticed is how noisy the motor is. The motor noise seems to resonate throughout the boat. I feel like I can hear the noise more up front toward the bow more than towards the back. My wife (who knows nothing about boats) kept asking if something mechanical was broken in the front of the boat. No matter how many times I insisted there is nothing mechanical in the front she kept asking about it.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Oops, probably would be a good idea to include the motor info...

It the 5.0 Volvo motor with the volvo outdrive.

The noise does seem to change when turning and I need to determine if I have power steering (I don't think I do) but mostly the noise seems to reverberate thoughtout the boat at all speeds.

Almost garrantee you have power steering. Check you bellows carefully for any holes, they are the corrugated rubber tubes between the outdrive and the transom. The upper one is the one that hoses the drive shaft. The noise you describe is almost always one of two things.

1. Gimbal bearing. (Most likely)
2. Universal joints.

There is a zerk fitting for greasing the gimbal bearing on the right side of the transom shield. With the engine running grease the piss out of it. 10 or so pumps with the same grease you use for your trailer bearings. If the noise subsides a bit, chances the gimbal bearing is shot. Removing the drive is an easy job, as is changing out the gimbal bearing. It;'s an afternoon worth of work. The bearing itself is about $40-$50.
