First time on this site- I hope I'm doing this right. My question is I have been looking at Crowns, Chaparrals and Sea Rays in the 17' to 18' range. In the process I came across a 2008 Horizon 180 with snap out carpeting, flip up seats, mp3 player, and the graphics package. It has a Volvo 4.3 with 23 hours on it. I can pick it up for $15000. Is this a fair price and how does the Four Winns stack up to these other boats? Thanks in advance for your help. Happycap

That's a VERY good price for a newer boat. Don't blink and go for it!

Welcome to the Four Winns forum. What kind of boating do you plan to do? Big lakes, small lakes, number of people, water sports, etc.? I would place Four Winns in the same class with the other brands you mentioned with the exception of Sea Ray which (no offense to anyone) I would consider a step down. On the other hand, if the only thing that matters to you is going fast, then the Sea Ray will make you happier.

The price is good and the engine choice is good for that boat, but these are family boats, not go-fasts so it's good to realize that going in. Does it have a single axle or tandem trailer? I believe both were available for that model.

With the 4.3 V6, that's an excellent price.

I almost bought a Chaparral 180 (which is a great boat) but went with the Four Winns 180 instead. The beam on the FW is larger than any 18ft boat on the market at the time I was buying. A couple of inches makes a big difference. My buddies 20ft Sea Ray feels smaller than my little 180 FW because the beam is so narrow and the better utilization of space in the FW overall. Plus, his boat has a terrible ride in the slightest bit of chop. I agree, Sea Ray is not in the same category. Its faster....

I paid $14,500 for a 2 year old 180 before the down economy for the 3.0L so yea thats a great deal man! Go for it.

p.s. - Snap out carpet might seem like a nice 'feature' before buying a boat but its a MUST after actually owning a boat with snaps!

Research the dealers for the boat brand. A boat is only as good as the guy working on it.

I want to thank those who replied to my question H180 or ?. I ended up buying the 2008 H180 with the 4.3. It has a mp3 player, snap out carpet, flip up seats, graphics package, bow and cockpit covers, and a bimini top. The matching trailer is a single axle with brakes and a fold away tounge. It also has a little over a year left on its waranty. All though the $15000 I paid for this boat was over my buget it seemed like a good deal to me. We will be using this boat mostly on inland lakes in Northern WI. Thanks again for the input. Can't wait to get on the WATER ! Will post pics as soon as I am on the water.

Congrats!!! I am sure you will be happy with it and that seems like a pretty good price for the year and engine package.

Got any pics of it on land? Around here, we consider everyone a liar until they put up some pics....its nothing personal.
