Hello everybody, I am new to the site and also a new boat owner. I tried to upload the pics but I couldn't get it done. I just purchased a 1985 190 Horizon with a 4.6 mercruiser and alpa 1 outdrive about a month ago. Purchase price was 2k and the boat is in great shape with the exception of the floor witch is going to be a fall/winter project. I took it out today and it planed out quick and was real responsive on take off. But at about 3800 rpm it really felt like it was bogging down. In between half throttle and full throttle it just lost a lot of power. If I would pull back the throttle just a little it would clean up. Also at full throttle it would clean up as well. I cruised all day at a 3400 rpm and it ran great until I would get the trottle in that dead space between half and full. Also wot only got to 4000 rpm. Any suggestions on what to do to get that top end power. Also there is no missing or backfiring and it has a great hole shot. And it purrs at idle. Also another thing I noticed was the running temperature never got above 130 degrees. What should the operating temp be. I will get pics on ASAP, thanks.

I'd start by finding out what the original prop was, and see if what's on it now is at least the same pitch. It could also be time for a carb overhaul, throttle cable adjustment, etc.

Frankly my biggest concern would be the floor. It's good that you went into this considering that to be a "project," because there's a chance you'll find more rot than just the floor.

sounds like you may have some goo in the carburetor. I'd put a bottle of seafoam in it, and run it for a while and see if it gets any better. That's been a big help for me with snowmobiles after they sit for the summer. Just cleans everything out and makes it all better! Plus, it's cheap and easy to try.
