Actually I'm working on the same issue. My peeling isn't bad, just one or two of the tips - maybe 1/8" max. Seems like a problem with a simple solution, but I've been looking for a year now and haven't found the right product. The two I'm considering trying (in this order) are 3M Super 77, and Testors liquid model cement, either one applied with a tiny artist brush. The area of gel coat involved would need to have all traces of wax removed, which I'll do with a Q-tip saturated with solvent (probably naphtha). |

I've taken my boat out twice and a small portion of it already started peeling. Brand new 2010. Good thing it peeled in fresh water so i just pressed it against the hull and it appears to stick again. I decided to go over the entire boat with my hand and pressing the sticker on firmly. Sometimes when the manufacture sticks on the decal they don't apply enough pressure to break the glue bubbles. It's good to take your hand and press firmly on the decal. Takes about 30 pounds of pressure to break the glue bubbles to help make the decal stick well. |

Guys...not trying to be a bearer of bad news but you will never be able to get those decals to stick again like they did when new. Once a vinyl like this is used loses its connection. It is not the type of adhesive that can be reused. If you correct this little spot it will happen in another area. Best solution is to have the striping redone. Not what you want to do I am sure. One other thing you could do is trim off the stripe where it is peeling. About 1/2" away, where it is still sticking. |

For the emblems, I'd use 3M emblem adhesive, available at any decent auto parts place. On decals, I agree that if any significant peeling has started it's time to just replace them (or, as some have done, remove them). In the case of a small tip being lifted, I don't see why that can't be glued back down, but I've considered just trimming them off too. |

Passing along the response I received from 3M. I asked about using Super 77 for this. "Thank you for contacting 3M. "The 3M(TM) Super 77 is not suitable for the application you describe. It will not handle the heat or the plasticizers in the vinyl. The 3M(TM) Super Trim Adhesive, 08090 is good up to 200 degrees and will not be adversely affected by the plasticizers in the vinyl." |

Follow up... after finding out that the 08090 only comes in a 4,000 ounce spray can (out of which I need about 5 drops), I asked 3M if they had any other suggestions. Their reply: I think either one of these products will work for your application. 3M (TM) Ultrapro(TM) Trim and emblem Adhesive gel, pn# 080361 (brushable) or 3M(TM) Plastic and Emblem Adhesive Clear (tube) pn# 08061. |
