Just wanted to introduce myself as another new Four Winns owner. We recently purchased a 2008 H180 with the VP 3.0L engine. The boat had never been titled, so was in great shape! This is my wife and my first boat, but we both have been boating most of our lives. Unfortunately with work and the ever-changing weather situation here in WI we have only had her out for about an hour on the day we picked it up. Just wanted to say hello, have been lurking around here extensively both before and after the purchase of the boat and this board is awesome. I have already learned so much. Below is the obligatory pic to prove I'm not lying :D

A couple quick questions...

1) I am a bit of an audiophile and so have already started thinking about upgrading the stock speakers. I have installed the Polk DB651's in my Trailblazer and really like their sound and great value. I pulled the covers off the stock speakers today and it looks like they would be an easy install. Has anyone swapped their speakers in an H180? Is their ample speaker wire back there? Any other potential pitfalls I should be aware off?

2) The boat came with the stock single axle trailer w/ the swing tongue. I have been trying to figure out a way to lock the trailer when it is attached to the tow vehicle. I already have a locking hitch pin so that they can't simply take the whole ball mount off and stick it in their hitch, but I would like to lock the trailer onto the ball so that they can't simply unhook the trailer... anyone have any success with different coupler locks? I have tried 2 so far (one from MasterLock, and a large brass padlock) with no luck, the span on both was too short.

Thanks everyone!

Welcome, and thanks for the great pic. For a coupler lock, try these (not sure what length you need, they have several):

Great looking boat! Welcome to the forum!

Sorry I don't have any answers for your questions, but I know the Polk's were covered extensively in another thread.

I think "aguyindallas" swapped out the stocks with Polk's. He may be able to answer your question.

Thanks for the welcome... and for the tip on the coupler locks and speaker install. The link was great, exactly what I was looking for. I should have realized you could simply google "coupler lock" and get 10^5 hits... oh well. If anyone is overly curious the stock trailer on a 2008 H180 has a 2 and 1/2" coupler span. In related news, is anyone in the market for a cheap coupler lock with a 2" span :D

I will search the threads for aguyindallas's install, thanks much!

Welcome to another Cheesehead! You can pick up a nice coupler lock at Farm & Fleet in Waukesha. We have Fleet Farm up here and it is where I got mine from for the same trailer when I had my FW. Also I highly recommend the Polk DB651's. I just installed 6 of them in my boat and love the sound. Watch Amazon.com. They run specials on them all the time. A bunch of members here including myself got them for $30.00/pair with free shipping.

There is plenty of wire behind the speakers. Upgrading to the polks is easy, and worth the cost. You can get a set of four for under $150 shipped.

Thanks for the tips... I will probably be picking up a set soon (as long as the wife, errr Admiral agrees :D ), good to know that there is plenty of speaker wire to work with. I can get 4 of the DB651's from EBay shipped for ~$110, seems like a good deal but definitely not as good as $30/pair!!

That lock wont work on my type of trailer tongue (and I am betting the original posters trailer either).

Howcome? They work on mine, though I don't put much faith in them.

Congrats and welcome from another in the area.

I have a locking pin set for the hitch and trailer that I picked up at Farm & Fleet similar to http://www.amazon.com/Bully-Hardened-Steel-Trailer-Hitch/dp/B001NHEZNM. It's probably enough of a deterrent around here.

If you're staying on the local lakes, check out the county season launch pass.

I purchased an adjustable (for spans 0.5"-3" if I remember correctly) coupler lock from Amazon... I will update the members as to if it fits when I receive it.

Rob- Where can you purchase the county season pass? I saw it on their website but it doesn't list where you can find it. Glad to have a fellow Waukesha citizen to get ideas from!

Call (262)548-7801 and tell them you want the boat launch pass. They'll transfer you to someone that will collect your mailing info and your credit card info for billing. The pass covers launching at the county launch for Nagawicka, Pewaukee, and Nemahbin.

Feel free to let me know if you're looking for other info.
