Hello, My first question on this forum was performance upgrades for this motor but seems this is Pricey! My issue is with 190 hp and being new I thought I would get more than 45 mph out of the boat with me and a half tank of fuel. Is this normal? I bought the boat new at sea level and am operating it in the mountains at 3,000 feet. When I first bought it I was hitting the governer and now I am not. Is prop the best or should I have the carb or something adjusted for the elev.? If I do play with props and want top speed is their a difference with steel or stainless? I know stainless lasts much longer but very pricey! Any help on these high elevation issues would be great. Best, Rob |

flyguyrob, Way back in the day I had a bayliner 1750 w/ a 3.0 in it and could hit close to 40 or so it in, so I'm thinking you could get a little more speed out of that boat even at 3K feet. If you've never gotten any more speed than that since new, elevation probably is your problem. I'd have a mechanic adjust the carb for the elevation b/c its cheap. My experience is stainless props give you better performance, but aluminum props get better economy. You can also mess with pitch and blade preferances as well, but I would stick w/ a 3-blade if top speed is what your looking for. If performace is what you really want a 7.4 big block will do the trick.............. |
