Had an interesting issue arise today and can't seem to figure it out. First time out and the temp gauge will not read above 125. Boat ran great...gauge started at 0 and rose to 125 and stayed there was out about 4 hours. I thought normal operating temperature was 170-180ish...any one have any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

I've been having the same problem and am going to have it replaced as quick as I can get the part: http://www.smwebhead.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5502

This is one of the drawbacks of a seawater (open) cooling system...bits of rust or sand can lodge in the thermostat and cause it not to close when it needs to and then you run too cool...I would not let it go too long because marine engines already run cooler than their automotive cousins (160*vs 195*) so running that cool can cause carbon build up and sludge as well...
IF it's a Volvo (my old OMC uses the same style thermo housing) it's very easy to change the thermo...

I would replace it right away. It's there to keep the engine in the optimal temperature range. Plus, if it suddenly gets unstuck, it may stick closed, then you overheat.
