I have just bought a 2005 Four Winns 210 and have noticed strong vibrations at rpms between 2500 and 3000. It also makes wierd sounds when cornering. The boat is still under a 60 day warranty and was wondering if anyone had the same problems and if so what causes this?
The engine is a Volvo 270 hp GXI c/w a ss prop.

Sounds like a gimbal bearing problem..

It should be covered under that warranty -- I would be taking it back and asking them about what you have heard.

My vote is either U-joints (which are "maintenance free" in '05 and should still be OK), or propeller(s).

Unfortunately "maintenance free" means they wear out when they wear out and can't in theory be replaced! U/J's greased every year have got to have a better chance of surviving longer than those that aren't, unless someone gets "clever" and puts some grinding paste in the grease gun to polish the bearing races!

My money would also be on U/Js; the noise when turning as the U/Js operational angles change. It should also be heard as the drive is tilted (to the same degree)

If you've got a problem with the gimble or ujoints on a boat that new I'd be wanting to check the bellows for water because in my experience those parts last a long time unless they get water in em and it sits for a while and/or they were never greased. As I have said often this makes a case for pulling the drive on any I/O power package at the end of each season to check...in fact if I ever bought another used I/O (not likely as outboards are strongly favored here) I would not buy it without a drive inspection in addition to the usual engine and hull checks....

Agreed 100%! That's why I said should be OK... If having the "maintenance free" ones eliminated the need to pull the drive every year I'd be all for them. Since they don't eliminate that need, I think I'd prefer to have the "old" ones with zirks because if they're greased every year they'll probably last forever.

As to the OP, even with the "maintenance free" UJ's, unless as Lou said the bellows have been compromised that shouldn't be the problem... yet... - which is what makes me question the props.

Check your throttle/shift linkage too while you are at it. Mine is occasionally rattling at about 4000+ rpm; this is due to the PP throttle linkage hitting the plastic engine cover. I haven't found a resolution for that yet, but it's another easy possibility to consider and eliminate.
