Post subject: | Walk-thru Doors |
Anyone have issues with their walk-thru doors not staying open? Mine have ball plunger holders mounted a the botton but they always seem to pop out after a few minutes of boating. I even tightened them to the max. Very annoying!!! I'm constantly kicking them closed as I try to drive. Seem like an idea to install a type of shock cord holder and post about half way up. Anyone have info? Thanks |

I also tightened mine to the max, and they are 'pretty good'. Takes a good thump to pop one loose, but it does happen. Doesn't bug me very much, but a fix would be nice. Maybe I'll brainstorm a bit this weekend... |

Here's what I'm thinking - two loops of elastic cord (hair bands) and two of these: ![]() Looks quick and easy. I may try it out tomorrow. |

I went with the smaller clear 3m Commander style clips. I did the port side first. One clip on the inside of the walk-thru door about even with the edge of the port console lower edge, and one clip on the underside of the port side console about three inches above the lower edge. A doubled rubber band secures to in inner hook, down to the edge then on to the clip on the door (had camera, but no batteries). The force applied pulls the walk-thru door in towards the console and this pull about 2/3 of the way up the door makes the latching at the bottom much more secure. I rode around for most of the day, and neither door popped - guess I didn't hit a big enough wave. I couldn't go too crazy as the admiral was in the bow the whole time. More testing is needed, but the concept is looking very promising to me based on how much more secure the door feels. Only the clips on the walk-thru doors will be visible, and then only when the walk through doors are in use. |

One tip - be sure and follow the instructions for the hooks which call for cleaning the area with isopropl alcohol before install. |

Update. I've run with this solution for some time now and have been in some pretty rough water. The rubber bands worked well, if the door popped loose the rubber band would pull it latched again, but my first mate 'forgets things' and would break the rubber band when opening the walk thru doors. Running out of rubber bands, I rigged up some bungee cords: ![]() The bungee cords were a bad idea. Rather than breaking a rubber band, the forgetful first mate broke a clip off. Also when I hit a rather large rogue wave just right, the bunge pulled a clip loose. I'm still happy with the solution, it really helps me keep my focus on driving the boat rather than fussing with doors that popped loose, but I'm going back to rubber bands. |
