Last evening while ring my boat into the marina for dinner, I encountered a problem. While puting my throttle in the forward position it will only go into reverse. The throttle will not allow me to put into reverse. The manager at the marina indicated it was proably a broken cable, which in his words was "no big deal". I called and left a message to recommended marine mechanic but have not heard back. Anyone have any ideas as to whether it's in fact no ig deal and easily fixed? Thanks

I would think it's pretty unlikely that the cable actually broke. If it did, then replacing it is a job, but not a horrendous one. I think it's more likely that the cable has somehow come loose either at the control or at the drive. That shouldn't happen with the fasteners used, but maybe someone put it back together incorrectly at some point.

As he said, not too big a deal. I had the same thing my first season. I recommend dealer doing it only because of neccesary adjustments to throttle and shift. I DIY on my last boat, and took many times for me to compensate for the slack. When my service tech did the work on my FW, it was right the first time, and hasn't needed adj.

Good news. After being out of town on business I picked up the boat from the mechanic yesterday. It was, in fact a broken throttle cable. Took it out for an afternoon test drive last night and she's running like a top :D . Thanks for the reasurrances on the relatively minor setback Four Winns forum members. It's going to be a hot one this weekend in Nashville. Happy boating.
