Hi All, First post and would like some help if possible. I have a 1997 Horizon 170 QX with a Volvo Penta 4.3gl mated to cobra SX drive. I am pulling it out of the water this week to change a stiff shifter cable. Is there anyway to find the required length and cable type without measuring. I would like to order the parts in advance.
I have new UJ's on the desk ready to fit so hoping the cable will be the easy bit, love the boat and will post a picture at some point. Thanks. :)

On the site Mike indicated there'll probably be 2 cables listed; the longer one is the shift cable. From memory, the last 2 digits refer to the cable length in feet. I don't think the TFXtreme cable are available as a standard part for a 1997 boat ( the shifter end is not the same as the drive end, as it is on later boats). It may be available as a special order.
If you can get one, in my experience it's certainly worth the extra money.

Excellent. Many thanks for the replies, looks like they are CC21413 13 and CC21414 14. Have pinged an email to a teleflex supplier to see if they do them in a TFxtreme flavour but will have to wait for reply. Otherwise will have to hook up the local Volvo dealer and do it that way. Will continue to interegate the google machine in hope of finding someone that has found a way to fit upgrade cable or a good replacement. Thanks Again.

These are really standard type cables, so getting an Extreme version will be no problems. I had to do the same for my shifter cable last season - they were in stock in Australia!

Graham is right on the money - the last 2 digits are the cable length in feet.

Having a real problem getting this part in Uk. Will check boat tomorrow but I think because it has an OMC connection one end (As per Grahams post) and a standard volvo the other it is not as simple as suggested. The U.K teleflex guy did not even have the part in his catalogue even though it shows on various US websites. I was hoping there was some sort of conversion with a simple screw on adapter or similar. Nothing is ever simple :?

The Extreme 14' shift cable I got was Teleflex p/n 303314 - it was plain threaded rod at each end

You can always try purchasing in the US and having it sent by mail to the UK - would not be too expensive and probably cheaper than buying locally!!

The TFXtreme cable with threaded ends is available in he UK; that's what I bought for my boat (Marinescene, in Cardiff). It is however the later type Volvo shifter on my boat, not the earlier one using the OMC end. The Teleflex product sheet does not indicate the TFXtreme cable with the OMC type end.

However, it does state "TFXtreme cables are also available in other styles please contact us for further details". The UK contact details listed are :

Have pinged them a mail and will call in the morning, other than that it is ordering from the US for me. I have found they do supply a TFxtreme version now listed as ccx21414 and ccx21413 for my boat and they are indeed the volvo standard type connection to the engine and OMC/BRP to the controls.
Are there any really good US sites in particular to order from, West Marine appeared possible but the ships in 5-8 days and should recieve in 3 weeks is a little off putting. The wife and I did a powerboating course yesterday so keen to get the controls smooth so she can practise ready to tow the wakeboard. thanks again for all the help.

I was in Florida in February; just as cold as the UK ( theme park rides at 60 mph into rain are very painful!). I bought a bilge blower from West Mariine in Orlando, they are very expensive, the same price as the UK !

Boaters World, now only an on-line store may be better on price; otherwise, try Ebay US. If UK merchants can't get the parts; to be honest, if you want to get mobile quickly, get a standard cable, as long as the cable routing is not to bad, then they can be OK. The adapters to fit a late volvo type cable to the earlier OMC shifter are almost as expensive as a new Volvo shifter!

Has ANYONE at all found a source for either of these cables, Ive been combing the country for one and no luck, CC21414 has been superseded by ccx21414 which is currently on backorder. today I called Teleflex marine in search of an alternative, no such luck says jim in engineering, the throw on this cable is very specific. if anyone KNOWS of a source Please post.

I can't offer any advice about where to get one; as I don't know in which country are in !

The "throw", presumably meaning the stroke should be pretty standard; the shifters were made by Teleflex for OMC/ Volvo. The required "throw" is defined by the outdrive. It would have made no sense at all for OMC/ Volvo to make their own shifters/ cables.

I'm in the USA,
graham, I didnt design it, The Control's are OMC side mount, to a Volvo Cobra SX stern drive.

The info was provided by the engineering dept. of Teleflex, not me. If you dont have info, why post?

Shipping is available Worldwide I Dont care where I have to get 1 from!
